I have been lurking here for almost 2 years and I finally joined because a buell is in the future for me, some questions though, how difficult is it to create the ergonomics of the xb12s on a xb12r, hopefully Dave and or Al can help me with this.. I have had neck surgery fusion c2 through c4 so that crouched position kills me. I like the tail of the R and hopefully the faring will help with the wind with my neck. nate |

Should be easy. First add the s pegs to lower the pegs 1 inch. Second, choose from several handle bar options available on Al's web site. http://www.americansportbike.com part number 9023,9077,or 9074(need to move ignition switch) should get you moving in the right direction. I have seen a Firebolt with the "S" handlebars on it, so anything is probably possible. |

Heli bar sells a nice top triple clamp/riser for the Firebolt. I have sold several and everyone likes them so far. That way you don't have to move your ign switch. |

I'm also a newbie, in the process of buying a xb12r. Putting the lower pegs on it definitely interests me, but my real question is: I'm a bigger guy (about 6' 230 w/out gear on) will I have enough adjustment on the stock suspension or will I have to upgrade at some point? |

I weigh 235 without gear, I didn't have to use up all the available adjustment on my XB9S so I don't think you'll have a problem with the standard suspension. |

I am 52, 6"1" and 185 w/o gear, 200+ with my gear on. I have an XB9R with Heli-bars, Buell touring grips and Buell touring seat with the lower "S" pegs. In addition I have the Double Bubble wind screen. This is very comfortable setting, almost like riding a bicycle. Still handles great, and as long as your moving the wind supports you just fine. I find this position spreads your weight over your hands, back, feet and seat, versus just your seat. As mentioned the wind holds you up, and at faster speeds is very comfortable since you are not fighting the wind trying to hold on. Stop and go traffic is different, since you do not have the added benefit of the wind. But I find it still is not a problem. plus I didn't get the bike to ride in stop and go traffic You do have to arch your neck back more than if you were sitting straight up, but with my set up, for me it is not that much |

Nathan, with your neck, I think you'd be better off with the S model. With the R, even with a higher bar You're bent and have to bend your neck back to see the road. |

I weigh 235# in my gear, and I do not agree that the stock springs or shocks are adequate for this weight. |

Thanks for all of the information, Old... I think that you are right I will go looking for a S model. They are hard to find around here now that Modesto buell has gone away. Dave how hard is it to switch a S tail end to a R. (I like the look) and what is the price damage? thanks for your help nate. |

Nate, If you get an "R" you will also do well to get a Sport Touring screen (also available from Dave) - it doesn't look as bad as the name implies. You can see how it looks on my profile. It does wonders for keeping you out of the breeze and reduces fatigue when fighting wind. AND it streamlines you better than the other screens available. If you set the suspension up correctly, you'll have NO problems. It's all in the set up. The stock springs front and rear are equal to, if not better than, a lot of other bikes. I'm not exactly a light weight and have run Track Days and I ride rather briskly and never had a problem. Try and get a Dealer that has a clue and will actually set your suspension for you. Can Daves interest you in a trip to Wisconsin!? I know for a fact that he takes the time to set up your suspension. Not the " here's the keys, don't let the door hit ya where the good Lord split ya" mentality. |

Dave when is a good time to call you, because I am out here on the west coast... Are any Cal. models? I have had another bike shipped here (a yamaha triple) for 400 bucks 3 years ago. I hope 400-500 seems about the going rate. Nate |
