Lately whenever I goto start the bike it makes that grinding/clicking sound that you get from a dead battery. I know te battery is good so what else would make it make that noise? | ||

Loose connections at the battery terminals could be one possibility. Don't take it for granted - got me once even after reepicheep told me to check them -  | ||

 Even in this pic (about 3 yrs old) you can see one headlight is brighter than the other. Do ya think this has something to do with my headlights only having power on one side now and the clicking sound. | ||

The headlights should look different... (high/low, the low has a reflector in front of the bulb) just as it should be the one on the right (well left on the picture) is dimmer | ||

the right hand light being dimmer is because of the reflector in the housing of the dim light as far as i remember. | ||

I took the reflector out before this pic was taken. The only other mod I did was upgrade the bulbs. First time I used 100w bulbs and they were too hot n melted the connectors. Second time I used 75=55w bulbs n they worked fine for a long time. Last time I used silverstars and both blew at the same time. After that I've only had power to one side coming from the switch housing. Would ANY of this be related to the dead battery clicking/grinding sound? | ||

I'll bet it your battery!!!!Most batteries even on car.It doesn't give enough power for the starter to turn correctly.So there a clicking noise.REplace your batttery. | ||

It was replaced about a year ago I'd think they good for longer than that. | ||

Run jumper cables from your car to the XB, then hit the starter. If the clicking goes away, replace the battery on the bike. Running too many electrical accessories could possibly affect your battery. If the draw is more than the the alternator can supply at your "typical operating rpm", then when the bike is at that point (below that rpm) it is drawing from the battery, and it is undergoing more charge/discharge cycles. That could be affecting its life. | ||

Same exact problem on my bud's 03 S, hit the starter and it clicks, hit it again and it will start with no problem, I tried jumping it and it still clicks, have not had time to check connections tho, bet he has a bad ground somewhere. | ||

Replace the Batt. As for the head lights. Even with the reflector removed one will still appear to be dimmer as it is aimed slightly lower. | ||

My XB12R Battery lasted 16 months and died. Knock on wood, still got the original battery in my 9R, circa June 2002, and the original battery in the May 2001 Sportster. I just know they're both gonna die on the same day. | ||

my 03 battery does the same thing....buy a small battery charger and charge it overnight....how long has your bike been sitting?? I have to charge my battery every winter ...it has power but not enough to turn the bike over...just clicks....Charge the battery, don't replace it you should be fine. | ||

What is the battery voltage with the bike off, if below 12 volts than the battery needs to be charged. if the battery is fully charged than it could be loose or corroded connections, power or ground connections. | ||

I read somewhere 240 cranking amps. But I do not know for sure. | ||

OEM factory battery is RATED at 200 CCA. New and in good condition they will load test at 330 CCA You may want to have your battery load tested. also look at my informative post in the KV section http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/3842/151799.html?1128800936 | ||

Its not doing it now. Weird because it wasn't even below 40 at night and the bike didn't sit for more than 3 days at a time. But wev'e had low 70s all week and Iv'e been pounding on it all week and so far it hasn't done it at all this week. (EXCEPT monday it did it when I first tried to fire it up) So I'm thinking the battery probably is just about toast. But with the warm weather n the riding every day its keeping it charged. | ||

mine only does it when my bike sits for a few months..i charge it up for a few hrs and all is well | ||
