Heres the scoop cut from a snorkel. Its still rough cut and a bit big. I dont want to direct too much air away from the engine.

doesn't the stock scoop direct air toward the engine???

I'm thinking this would better direct air from the outer scoop up the frame. Kinda grabbing air as it passes by. The outer scoop would go over this one. So this one would be inside of the outer scoop.

Still too big i think. But it seems to work pretty well. I ran a hair dryer in front of it, with and without the inner scoop. Air comes up through the frame in both cases but is much stronger with the inner scoop. I'm just concerned with cutting off too much air to the rear cyl. I have no idea if this will improve anything but its something to tinker with while the weather sucks.

I had thought of doing the same thing. I think you are right that it will cut air to the rear cyl. Maybe trim it so you only lose half of the area. Let us know the results. Good work.

I'd be careful about cutting down the air supply to the rear cyl. Sometimes it runs about 150 degrees hotter (measured at the base of the plug - kinda marginal measurement but STILL - tends to run hotter)

If you had any kind of temperature measuring that you could use to get front/rear temperature differences, that'd be good data.

Otherwise, the ECU will start shutting down the engine with the temperature rising too much.

Keep the mod the way you have it set up, and get a right side fiberglass scoop to cool the rear! presto problem solved. I'm getting a right side scoop as soon as I can justify paying the money for one.
