My review of the SS Drummer is one word Fantastic!
OK I lied I cant leave it at one word. Kevin sent this to me about three weeks ago. The same day I received it, it was on the bike. Followed by a trackday on the weekend. Initial impression was the fit and finish are top notch, next the sound is more mellow then the loud version but once your riding under load that changes to a snarl that cannot be mistaken. The numbers dont mean much to me as I prefer on the track dyno. I did a quick tune for the track to get the fuel in the 13's,I was not tuning for peak numbers and still netted 91hp80ftlbs on a typically sad dyno. Numbers dont mean much to me. As I prefer on the track performance and boy did it surprise me the entire rev range is usable down to 2k and up to soft limit. But what really impressed me was the low end, I nearly high sided 3 times trying to find the right throttle position out of a 90deg. left hander at 2500,2800, and especially above 3k. I'm going to have to get some new pullies that will help chill out the bottom end. The mid and top did not disappoint either as no one in intermediate class could overtake me on the longest straight because of the drive was getting out of the corner. Once I moved up to
advanced the better of the racers were getting better drive due to carrying alot more speed through the corner, But they were'nt leaving me in the dust either.
In conclusion my tires are extremely upset with me and Kevin. Kevin I am extremely satisfied with your willingness to work with my needs, which are displayed in the pics I have provided.
I asked Kevin for a bead blasted end caps and a flat black stainless can not to mention he even had a special flat black timing cover made for my bike everything matches my current theme flawlessly. Kevin your dedication to the product is a stellar example of how all manufactuers should be.
J

That's my stance. I think these are great mufflers but for $100 more I can get a full Micron system. What I want to see is a dyno of both on the same bike the see who really has a better system.

Darkducati,
The Micron is a great product, a $100 more, but the tuning of the ecm is the difference....thats at least $250 more so now it's $350 more....you'll love it I'm sure, there's a guy in Arizona that took the Tuned ecm Micron off and is running the drummer now, I don't know what difference there is but I can give you his phone number if you'd like....I'll get around to tuning the SS one day, I want to see what everybody else has and then if I need to I can change my design anytime to accomodate certain needs, if it's more torque, bigger number up top or whatever.....if someone wants to tune the existing SS against any system, get me a plane ticket to wherever and that's where I'll go, but if it makes more power than everything else then it has to cost more, I vote on leaving it competitive and affordable for now....I'm saving the best for last!!!!

Darktwin,

Did you take your entire front end apart to paint your fork tube bases and triple tree black? I'm going to be doing those and my fork tubes black in a couple weeks, and I still haven't decided on my plan of attack. I was thinking that if I'm going to need to take my forks completely apart I might just have it all powdercoated, but if I can just take everything off the bike and paint it I would be much happier. I've already done my frame and swingarm black and I'm trading case covers with a guy that has an extra 9 motor. I'm also going to go with black wheels and a polished header instead of black, so we'll have similar but not identical bikes. I really like what you've done by the way!

Kds1-That's fair enough. Is the SS designed to be used with the race or standard ECM?

Have you had good luck with the SS on the XB9?

Dark,
Race ecm....I sent one to Paul Lytle and bettered my design for the 1050, it will work on any v-twin, I just need to know the specifics of the engine, I can build a good muffler by the specifics but I can make a better one with some dyno days.....there's so much more that needs to be done but time is not my best friend right now.....

Olin: I just painted them off the bike while they were still attached to the forks I was thinking about anodizing the tubes black but the track is murder on the front end. You will notice from the pic of the front of the muffler that isn't all road debris some are actually pitted in the end cap. That is part of the reason I went with the industrial look, this way I can re bead blast it to make it look new. My front fairing also has pits as well as everything else on the front end. So be cautious when investing money into a area that gets 90% of what the road or whoever is in front can throw at you. Thanks for the compliment. By the way I would'nt powder the front as the coating is really heavy and will cause clearance issues when re-assembling.

What I want to see is a dyno of both on the same bike the see who really has a better system.

Dark: Why dont you buy both systems and tell us what you think? I prefer seat of the pants then a bunch of dynos that will always vary in numbers. How about you?

Kevin: My muffler eagerly awaits it anticipated update}
