I am happy to say that I am the newest owner of an XB9SL...pick it up on Friday..can't wait to brave the frostbite for a ride. But the first thing to go is those mirrors...can I have been following y'all for the last couple of months and listening to the persuasive banter led to my choice...oh and that I have been a Buell follower for years. Long winded...I apologize but I want to know if anyone knows a really cool set of bar ends...napolean in style...hang down and in...with a oval mirror...something like the new Confederate G2 hellcat. IDeas?

I have a pair of CRG billet aluminum bar end mirrors. I paid $62. a piece for them. They are still in the box. (Never used) Will take $50. a piece for them.
Was going to put them on my bolt. Decided to put the extensions on the stock mirrors.
You can email me at madriver@mikrotec.com

CRG's on my Lightning...

They only reflect a tiny image of what's behind, but enough to know if it's safe to change lanes or not.

I am not sure about the mounts on the XB9S, but I just bought a set of carbon fiber like alike mirrors from www.flandersco.com

They were on the top of the second page of mirrors and only $13.20. they look great on my M2 and are very low profile.

Cheap-Ass Bar End Mirrors: I haven't figured out what to do with my stock mirrors yet, but so far, for $13 bucks each, I'm impressed. They don't vibrate or move around, even in triple digit speeds. Glass convex lens, plastic body. They install in about 60 seconds. The give a much better field of vision!

...for the record...
Not as pretty as the CRG's, but the price is tough to beat. Available at most cycling (pedal type) shops.

Chainsaw,

Who did the applique on your windscreen, or is it painted? I'd be very interested in a red/orange version of that.

Love the flames on the windscreen. Where Can I get that?

I made the flames. These flames are the 3rd try for me. It is a 3 piece decal placed on the inside. Up close it has some small visible bubbles, that I hope will eventually off-gas out (as bubbles in vinyl tend to do). I tried painting them with Krylon, then Krylon Fusion for plastics, but the car wash wand zips 'em right off. I guess to do it right you need to mask off the upper edge of the flames, bead blast the scratch resistant coating off the underside of the windshield, then paint the flames. I don't know how the windshield will look painted if it is scuffed first. Beyond my equipment and ability, I'm a vinyl guy. But the stuff is just not made to go over a concave surface like the inside of the windshield.
Long story short, you might want to talk to a local painter to see what they can do. My version is "less than professional" right now, but looks good from a distance. I was just too cheap to spring $149 for a tinted windscreen!
If you are not too picky, I might be able to help you out with a one color flame job for cheap or trade. You can get me at pduffey@signmaker.com or patrickduffey@usa.net. Spiderman can vouch for me!
Blake, if you feel this post is taking advantage of your web site, feel free to yank it, no hard feelings, as I'm not a paying advertiser. I'm not really trying to drum up business. I won't have any slow time around the shop 'till November! :)

Chainsaw,

Can you do multicolored designs on vinyl? For example, if I were to send you a JPG file, could you print it out onto vinyl?

Darthane:
Yes. Your JPG design should be at least 300dpi at an 8.5"x11" size, or the resolution on the final product will suck. Full color is much more expensive (we farm it out, our machine has been put out to pasture), I would guess in the neighborhood of $40+ (at home, no pricebook here!). Needs to be printed on clear material with a UV coating. Being it's going on the underside of a clear windshield, UV rays are still gonna fade that puppy in under 18 months. Might try printing out what you're looking for and checking locally. The most common machines to reproduce it are called a Gerber Edge. Output on those is limited to about 12" tall (to the best of my knowledge). Windscreen itself is about 14"x17", so you might be looking at spliced artwork (not the end of the world, but I haven't seen your graphic). If it has to be one piece, it can be done but you may be paying for a 2'x3' print that you're not using all of!

I was given a pair of Iron Machine mirror extensions for my birthday. What a difference!

They work great. I can see behind so much better without lifting my arms. Still need to tuck the elbows in a little to see directly behind, but everything else is right in view. No increased vibration or distortion. Easy to put on.

I wasn't sure how they looked, but after looking at them a while, I have decided that I like them. They actually enhance the waspish look of the XB9R's front, giving it more dramatic antennae. Doesn't matter, after riding with them yesterday, I can't imagine going back to being blind.

Fasteddieb:

Way to go! Hope they work for you. I've still got all 4 mirrors on. One of these days I'm gonna fabricate some sort of bolt on "devil horns" for the original mirror mounts. Till then I should really just take the originals off!

The mirrors come with 2 sizes of rubber inserts for installation. For the throttle side install, you should try one of the small inserts nearest the mirror with the larger insert on the end inside the clip on. Be careful not to bind your throttle return! A dash of dish soap, or a squirt of windex on the rubber makes 'em slide in real easy. Good luck! :)

I have Napoleon bar-end mirrors and I love them. There is a good field of view... they are top quality... vibration distortion is less than stock mirrors... and they look great. Not cheap... but not outrageous... less than $70.00 for a pair. They come in chrome and black. Check out my ride in my profile... not the best angle... but they can be seen.

My idea is to emulate Harleybritt and replace the turn signals at the same time. I already received the turn signals and this will be another project on my next N GA trip (that's where my 'bolt is)

I just got back from my N GA house. I did the deed and removed the mirrors and replaced them with the cheap-ass mirrors Chainsaw recommended. I also removed the front turn signals and replaced them with the units Harleybritt used. I like the way it looks.

signals

The mirrors, are, well, adequate. I still may consider the Napoleons - the slightly larger area would help rear visibility.

Thanks to all those who provided info and part #'s.

BTW, what a GREAT bike in the mountains!

Nice lookin' bike there, Fasteddie b - looks like mine!

If you need more rear visibility, how's about trying a set of fish eyes stuck on the bar ends?

What kinda rear bag is that? How do you like it?
