Hey,

Right before i decided to put a blanket over my xb9r for a looong winter here in sweden. I had a kind of irritating experience. One day i came home and parked my bike by the side walk and went inside and fixed some things at home, all of a sudden i heard a metal clinging sound and i look out the window. And what do i see... two people leaning over my bike. While my girl called the cops i ran out. Soon there was 3 cop cars, a x9 unit, a van, and a chopper hanging above us. The question i had in my head was, bissy day huh?

My question i have right now is... they destroyed my ignition, so now i cant turn the key. The same thing has happened before and then i had to buy a whole lock kit, so i can use the same key to all three locks. So i want to know is there a way where the ignition lock can be manufactured from a key code, or in any other manner?
I know that its possible the other way around, like ordering an extra key. But i want an extra ignition lock mecanism. Or do i have to buy the whole kit again?
If anyone knows how much one of those lock-kit costs, i would be greatful to let me know, it would be nice to see how much it varries.

(Sorry for miss spelling and crapy grammar... but hey we have one thing in common.. we all love our Buell : D)
/Regards
Christofer

I'm pretty sure that i have read that Daves can get replacement keys if you give him the key number, maybe he can do it for the ignition too?

At this time ign switches by key code are not available. Sorry.
Of course you can get a new switch but it will come with a different key.

OK, I went through a similar situation when I bought my Buell--the dealership had destroyed the gas-cap lock (don't ask) and had replaced it with one keyed differently from the ignition. I tried quite hard to get a gas-cap keyed the same, but as Daves says they are simply not available from Buell. So, in desperation I took the gas cap to a local locksmith, and asked if he could re-set it to work with the ignition key. He called me the next day, told me it was ready, and charged me $10. He also told me that it was actually a very easy lockset to work with.

What I don't understand is why my dealer couldn't have done the same, instead of offering me a NEW bike with the gas-cap keyed differently from the beginning... Anyway, I'd suggest you get a new ignition switch and have a locksmith re-set it to work with your existing key (or it may be easier to re-set the gas cap and seat locksets to the new ignition key, if you don't want to disassemble the ignition key block).

Kootenay... thanks man, that might be an easier solution. Im gonna look it to that and see how skilled the people are here.

Daves, how much would just the ign switch cost in the US you think? Here they go for about 100$.

dido on the lock smith mate, my brother is one and re-keying is common and easy job (to a locksmith not us).

Buy the new ignition, take it, your fuel cap and try to remove the seat lock to save you a few bucks through labour, and take all 3 to a locksmith to pick up later.

If you re-key to your new ignition (keeping it the same as when you recieve it), you will only be re-keying the fuel cap and seat lock to your ignition, and those will be easy to access and do the job.

Sounds like you know how to remove the ignition, some have a trick.

Call some and see what they say.

Why did those a**holes do that to your Buell?? Was it simple vandalism or were they attempting to steal it?

Take it to a locksmith and have them re-key it to your old key.
