Well, after listening to some of the good ol' boys here the BMW boards look better every day. Hey, as least they have the social skills to put togther rallies and not one but two independent national clubs.

Back to this board. It amazes me the gumption some folks have, to first bastardize a Buell, then to get all whiney when they are not greeted with love and affection on a Buell board. To give you some comparison, I once threw out the idea of making my worst BMW a parts donor for the others, and was roundly criticized. And if you want to slightly modify a /2 frame to install a later airhead motor, make sure the frame is from a bike whose engine had a large hole in it's crankcase or you'll find your project stalled for lack of parts and advice.

There's a reason for this- BMW builds classics. And are Buells throwaway bikes that can be trashed at will by comparison?

Who told you that? Erik started out making his own frames and using a modified British motor. His first street bikes were made using his left over race frames with off-the-shelf Harley motors.

Hey Josh, the street bikes is exactly what I'm talking about. He was putting a Harley motor in a frame that he had built. The guys building the mutants are putting a Buell motor in a frame that they built or bought. It is the same thing. All I was trying to say is that I remember hearing Harley guys talk about how terrible Buell was for making a sportbike with a Harley motor and that Buellgrrl sounds exactly like them. I Felt a clarification was needed.

I figured if any group would embrace all forms of motorcycling it should be the Buell groups because we and our bikes are not generally accepted by any group other than our own. We do not fit in with the Harley types because we have sportbikes, and we do not fit in with the sportbikers very well either because our bikes are cut from a different mold than theirs. I love to see new things, and the mutant bike here in KC that one of our friends rides is bad a**. Not exactly for me right now, but maybe when I slow down a little I might end up with one also. Anyway, open up your mind to new things Buellgrrl. Truly unique bikes are what the large manufacturers try to copy and without them motorcycling would never progress. Remember the roots of what you are riding before you turn your nose up at someone elses invention.}

Poor choice of analogy- Erik didn't bastardize Sportsters to get powertrains for his Buells, he was honest and bought the motors from HD as the "chopper" builders should. As far as Harley riders angered by the Buells, they didn't even know Buell existed. Some Harley owners still don't know Buell exists- a supervisor who insisted my Buell was a clone bike comes to mind... but he's a story for another post.

So let me get this straight so I know the rules.

So we ("chopper builders") should be buying our motors new from HD (at a price of what, around $4000).

For this $4000, I would be getting the motor only. Then I would have to buy the front end, wheels, front and rear brake assemblies, guages, and the list goes on and on.

Your right Buellgrrrl, why the hell would I want to buy everything together for the same price, when I could do it your way and spend twice as much money just so I would not make someone as important as you mad.

You guys are giving Buellgrrrl way too much credit. You know your fighting a losing battle trying to get her to understand. She's great at arguing but not so good at ending one. Reminds me of a few women I used to know. Arguing just for fun.
I have never become emotionally attached to a machine before and not going to start now.
Gonen60, if it's time for a change then by all means do what you need to make yourself a bad ass chopper. Right now I'm enjoying the hell outa my old S1, but would have no problem taking it apart if the time comes!

Personaly I like people with strong opinions. I even like people whose opinions differ from my own. Hehe I like spunky scrappy girls alot as they are usually way more fun than milk toast. She does come off a bit strong in some of her posts. As for me it is not possible for an anonymous person on the other side of the country to me off.

By the way I will give you $100.00 for that swing arm if it is undamaged. If it is silver.
