I have seen a few XB models with catch cans on them. Do the XB models need catch cans? Mine has never spilled oil from any where. I have 99 model that needs one on the trains.

It is used more to keep the moisture and oil vapors out of your intake (where the epa mandates the crank case be vented to).
It keeps your air box cleaner, and there are reports (I've never seen the dyno runs) of increases in HP for various reasons.
Is it needed? No, honestly.

you can see some dyno runs in the beginning of the thread here that show the power gains.

It isn't the catch can that does anything for power, it is just the breather re-routing and freer breathing input. The breathers do exhale some watery oily mist, and catching it instead of dumping it on the ground isn't a bad idea. But the XBs exhale so little splooge that a breather filter to act like a diaper on the end of the breather line is fine for most. You'll still get some oil/water stains from the stuff that may drip from it.

The XB catch can is nice to have on the bike just because it looks so nice there... : )

The catch can from American Sport Bike is here:

I have one myself. I bought one of the early models. Just trying to give an honest assessment.

Thanks for the link Al.

Hey Al. Using a breather as a diaper, couldn't you just clean it out with some K&N cleaner every so often as it got mucked up and just go with the breather? Sounds reasonable...

You can also get a Drummer Performance Products catch can. Check out www.kdfab.com. Similar to Al's quality product but with the Drummer logo engraved on it plus hoses & filter included.

Installed yesterday. A1 product and service.
Looks like it should have been there from the factory.

Changed plugs to Denso Iridiums while I was in there.
Bike runs better than ever.

Is Norris still building those? Haven't seen his posts lately, maybe I'm not paying attention.

Check mine out, economy version. The Norris can is a work of art, but I just could not spring for it. The Jaz was much cheaper and works fine for me.

That's kind of cool looking Blas. Makes use of the bar.

Spatten1,
Mike is still machining, he's busy with the Drummer SS parts, I hope he doesn't have time to post...
