As long as they don't take away the coverage of the AMA, World Superbike, and Moto GP bike races on Sunday and Tuesday, I'm good. I slot this into the "if you don't like it, don't watch it" category. I'm not a huge NASCAR fan either, but in America we have a thing called "choice". No one is putting a gun to your head and telling you that you have to turn it on and watch. Spend the extra time on your bike and quit yer bitchin'.

schmitty i agree w/ u in part, but .. america is a land of choice .. so why is so little available to motorcyclists??!1

one network for maybe 5% of its content?!

also, does everyone HAVE to be a billionaire to influence TV content??!!

bah humbug .. its right, get out & DO .. participate in track days .. all that proactive stuff

4403, how about some Top Gear episodes or something, they played them for a time, but now they are gone. : ( Guess what they are playing on speed right now...CASCAR. What is this? When losers learn to get into NASCAR? Let me give you a synopsis of the race thus far, IT SUCKS! Enough said. I think it is time for SPEED2 without any NASCAR. Atleast until next year when it spreads to SPEED2 also! Double : ( Then we will have to make TWO petitions.

It's just another e-petition.

Like peeing in a dark suit - gives you a warm feeling and nobody notices.

http://www.snopes.com/inboxer/petition/internet.htm

Cancel your cable subscription and send a copy of the order with the reasoning to Screed channel if you want to make a point. Send letters to sponsors of programs you DO favor along with receipts for goods purchased expressing your reasoning.

Hate to say it but E-petitions are a gesture of impotence.

MAIL them a letter - spread the word to use MAIL and support sponsors of programming you wish to see.

Bummer is, NA$CAR is huge. Smaller motorsports are just... well... small. Even MotoGP's numbers are tiny by comparison.

Speed TV was better before they got bought out by ......... I forgot who it was that bought that chanel. was it nbc or something?

Speed was bought by Fox. Part of their agreement with NASCAR was to create a "NASCAR" channel. Fox knew that wasn't going to fly and the original owners of the Speed Channel had been shopping the network looking for capitol to keep it on the air.

"Real" motorcycle programming is going to be hard to come by as they don't bring in the ratings. The only mass interest in motorcycle T.V. is boar out by what's on T.V. now-it's all chopper, all the time.

Speed isn't going to be swayed by a petition with only 3-4000 signatures on it. It sells advertising based on the number of folks tuning in to their shows and NASCAR brings hundreds of thousands, if not millions of viewers to their channel.

On cable channels like Speed, some low volume show producers actually pay to be on the channel. World Superbike, AMA, etc actually buy air time to be on the network. They then in turn have to woo advertisers to re-imburse for the time bought or it's part of a sponsor deal. Say like Lockhart-Philips wants as part of their deal with the AMA to sponsor their road race series, they wanted a TV deal, AMA goes to Speed and purchases air time on Speed and works out who's responsible for commercial revenues and who those revenues go.

Point is, NASCAR is the reason Speed is still on the air. NASCAR brings the money, NASCAR brings the ratings. As much as some think NASCAR is for drooling, knuckle dragging, wife beating, 6th grade educated, dumb as a box of rocks, pro-wrestling watching dolts, there's A whole bunch more of them right now than there are of you.

If you want to see more of your kind of programming, petitions aren't gonna do a thing. Contact everyone who's signed that petition, get them to invest in a TV network that caters to what you want to see.

Just one thing, many have already tried the kind of programming you speak of, and it's all but gone. Not enough people watched it.

Alright, here's the thing. I've been a NASCAR fan since my inception. Basically I was born into the whole thing, but I've also grown to appreciate the things that most don't see. As an engineer, I'm constantly amazed at the innovative changes that teams make to increase power, reduce drag, improve handling or prolong system life. Keep in mind that these teams are tied to using technology that was around in the 1970's. There are no on-board computers, no fuel injection, no variable valve timing, no traction control... it's all very manual.

The good thing about the Speed channel is the behind the scenes look that they give to the fans. I agree that they overplay the programs, and usually at the expense of fans of other motorsports. But I guarantee that they have done market research and based on the majority of their viewers, this is probably what most want to see. I too miss the GP and WRC coverage that originally attracted me to the channel, but what I'm really sick of is all the Barrett-Jackson coverage.

P.S. - I signed the petition

Yeah. Last night my son and I were going to watch Supercross on Speed last night at 6:00 PM EST. AMA's website gave the time, Speed's web site showed nothing, no schedule at all, beyond 5:00 PM. We turn on Speed at 6 and what do we see.......Barret-Jackoff! Let's see, you could show a live, very competitive national race, or bunch of old cars that 1/4% of your viewers could afford anyway. The race will be broadcast on Feb. 5th (if at all).

Yup, I could shut it off, which is what we did. However, as a cable subscriber, I am a customer. Therefore, I have paid for the right to bitch about it. Were it a free broadcast service, I should just shut if off and shut up. When I look at my cable bill, I certainly feel like a customer. The previous post saying to just shut it off and that is all we have a right to is incorrect. We are customers and have a right to complain just like poor service in a restaurant. Of course, all the NASCRAP fans will win out anyway.

Never Give Up!

they show EVERY Moto GP race, and I think all the AMA superbike races. Also lots of the world superbike races...Some times they play them twice a week during race season. that alone makes speed channel a must for me.

I'm still waiting for my cable company to offer Speed.
I wish I had it so I could watch all the bike races & bitch about the lack of bike races.

Until such a day I guess I'll just view threads like these with a twinge of envy

Metal,
You might try canceling your cable subsr. and sign up for online content on speedchannel or MotoGP.com. I believe you can get reasonably priced content to view races and behind the scenes interviews and action clips from races.

I just went to the Re-live place on motoGP.com and watched the entire Laguna GP from last year. It was really cool. I'm considering buying the package for next year...
