Seems like since I changed my oil and had the TPS reset the fan runs every time the engine is shut off. Even when the weather is in the 40-60 degree area. Seems like it only did that after hard, high rpm runs before (XB12R stock muffler and ECM). Any thoughts?  | ||

Have you done anything else to the bike? I myself would only be worried if the fan was running while the bike was running all the time. I notice that when it gets cold my fan runs sometimes when I shut it off and other times it doesn't. Also notice when the humidity is really high that even a short ride (<5 miles) it will run. Seems normal to me. | ||

My fan runs almost every time I shut down. Sometimes just at low speed when its cold out. I dont think I can remember a time when it didnt come on after riding now that you mention it. | ||

I have a 06 xb12r, I was ridding it the other day and it was only 55 degress out and the fan ran alot!!!!! and everytime I shut it off it comes on. I thought it was normal. | ||

When I changed my oils for the first time it seem to come on a lot less . The only thing that I don't like is when the fan turns it won't turn off even if I'm moving . You think it would turn off once the engine cools down a bit ! | ||

I was worried about the exact same thing Mine runs too usually when I shut her down. TPS reset shouldnt have too much to do with engine temp. When my bike was newer it ran more. Its running less and less now. Its gonna run more when the engine is newer. Im waiting for a decent priced right side airscoop to almost eliminat the need for a fan. | ||

I have a 06 XB12Ss and every time I shut it off after a ride, long or short, the Fan comes on and runs for several minutes. It has does this consistently from day 1. | ||

Hi the fan on my XB9R runs every time I shut it down no matter what the weather. I too figured this was normal. I am surprised how often it runs when the bike is moving even at speed. Time for a RH scoop as well I guess. Terry | ||

The fan will usually come on following shut-down to cool the cylinder heads where in other less sophisticated motorcycles, heat from the combustion chamber tends to build up and cook the oil sitting in the cylinder heads, on the valve guides, etc.... Your nice intelligent forced-air cooling system prevents that. Great bike eh? | ||

The fan should be coming on after shut down, to cool the motor ASAP. This is a 2 fold scenario: First, no oil circulating at the moment of shut down combined with no air being forced across the cooling fins means heat will build for a short while, like carry over cooking with a microwave. Second, the fan is also trying to cool the residual fuel in the system to avoid vapor lock. If your fan doesn't come on at time of shutdown, either your running really, really, really cool, or there's an ET or Fan issue that needs to be looked into. | ||

My XB12Ss fan always comes on after shutdown. I'm OK with that for the reasons posted by Blake. However, when new, it ALWAYS was on after the engine reached operating temperature (even when the ambient air was 55-60 degrees and I was droning at 55 mph). After 2k miles and a switch to synthetic oil, it is on less now while the bike is running, but still more than I am happy with. Somebody posted a 5k turning point before they saw significant improvement, so I'll probably wait until then before passing judgment. | ||

When I first got my 03 XB9SL, the fan would come on after every ride, even on the cold mornings. After going synthetic, it didn't come on as much (very noticeable). Al, did you switch to synthetic (you didn't mention)? | ||

Gotta use synthetic oil, Amsoil motorcycle v-twin, had been using Syn3 when I worked for HD. Fan didn't seem to run as much with Syn3 in the cold/cool weather, could just be me. | ||

i've only experienced it once, out in Appleton for the factory tour, but man there is nothing like a whole fleet of Buells after shutdown. sound like a little flock of jets cooling off. love it! btw, my fan runs after every shutdown, someone posted temps it cools to. if you notice there are different speeds the fan will run at depending on temp.. . me thinks. | ||

Yeah, we get lots of looks as we pull into the Vortex for bike night, because none of us have a stock muffler. Then we shut 'em down and the after coolers kick on, those that didn't look as we rolled in are now looking. We love to make an entrance! | ||

Last May, I went on a trip in the NC mountains with a bunch of Harley riders. I was the only Buell rider. Every time we took a rest stop, several riders would look at my bike, hearing the fan running, and say what in the f#@k is that? It annoyed the hell out one rider. Turn that damn thing off! | ||

I'm not knockin the Buell, but I agree with Twig, the most common comment I get is "what the F*#% is that?" Kind of like the "hey buddy, your headlight is out" They both annoy me. | ||

Ambient temp seems to have little to no effect on whether my fan comes on or not. I've been riding to work in the 30's and 40's and by the time I get to work (20 minutes of riding in light traffic), it's running on high every time. Seems to always kick on about 10-15 minutes into each ride. This is the only thing that I don't like about the bike. It's damn annoying to me. I'm going to try the right side air scoop and see if that makes a difference. | ||

The fan on my XB9S ran every time I shut down. I went to synthetic oil in the engine and tranny. And now with some miles on the bike it doesn't always turn on when shutting down. Doesn"t seem to run as often when riding. |
