I took the Wide Glide in for a recall service today and as I had the trailer, I took in the '05 Lightning XB12S, also. What I described to the dealer was a rough running condition, with a hesitation when rolling on the throttle, sometimes not idling or stalling. He went through the bike pretty well, and went ahead and reset the TPS to zero. I actually spoke to the technician after he was done, and he said that it was out by about 2 degrees. I am looking at the service manual and it says when the TP degree reading is not between 5.1 and 6.2 degrees that it should be recalibrated. My question is this as I am not well versed in the intricacies of digital fuel injection: is the TPS being off 2 degrees quite a bit? It SEEMS to be running better, but that is without riding it much (we are getting DELUGED here in Seattle). The dealership I purchased it from installed the race kit at the 1K service (it has 3500 miles on it now). On to some good news-the dealership I was at today, Downtown Harley-Davidson/Buell in Seattle, had, and I counted-18 Buells on the floor (some new 04's included), 2 different colored Ulysses, they had Buell shirts, Vanson jackets, a whole display of Buell parts and accessories, women's Vanson gear and women's shirts. I was pleasantly surprised. I even saw some Buell riding boots!!! Also, my bike would not start with the bike in neutral WITHOUT the clutch squeezed. Turns out the diode in the fuse block was turned around-so I learned something new today. Now if it would only stop pouring down rain....... | ||

Vito: glad to hear that the bike is running better as a result of a TPS reset. the technician seems to have conducted the procedure correctly, although he has displayed a lack of understanding what he actually DID. The TPS value stored in the ECM is reset to ZERO, corresponding to closed throttle position. the digital technician cannot "back-compute" or display what the stored tps value is or was, it can only reset the value to zero. | ||

Thanks Dean. That is a good description. I am not convinced the installing dealership actually set the bike up correctly. They do not deal with that many Buells. This technician actually owns one, and seems to know the intricacies of them. I am looking forward to being able to ride it more than a few miles in the near future! John | ||

Vito you just described my bikes problems to a T. I hope mine is just in need of a reset too. Also my battery is only reading 12.4 on a meter. My plug wires are also in pretty bad shape. I have the regular mods race ecm, filter, 12 air lid, and jardine, anyone have advise on what plug to run. I was looking for a Iridium tip? | ||

IXU24 is an iridium plug, Daves stocks em. replace plug wires also, they are inexpensive. |
