Hey I just bought the new buell race air filter P/N 29388-02YB. Is this an actual K&N air filter or other? Do I need to buy a filter service kit and oil it myself before putting it use?

Yes, it's a K&N.
No, it's pre-oiled.

Glitch, the new one is not a K&N. Buell changed there supplier I think year ago or so. The new one isn't of same quality. But you can get a K&N through K&N now.

The new Buell race filter is not a K+N. I disagree with that it is not the same quality.
It is not the same but is a quality filter.
It is still washable you just don't need to oil it like the K+N.
I sell both so people can choose which one they want.

Dave I wonder why Buell has changed supplier then again.Cause I heard it was gonna change again some time ago. If its washable then what hold the dirt to it?? I don't like the design but thats my opinion.I'll stick to the good old K&N.

So this filter never needs to be oiled?

That is correct, no oiling

As far as who supplies them to Buell I do not know who makes them now.

Sticking with a K+N isn't a bad choice.
Using the Buell race filter isn't a bad choice.

They are just choices.
Having them doesn't make one bad and the other good.

I have K+N in my HDs and I don't like the oil but that is me.
I was glad Buell changed.

Got the new Buell race filter in Kandie's 9SL.
I'll be running the new one in this years demo 12R and demo Uly.
No more oiling! Yeah!

Like I said earlier, I still sell the K+N for those that want it. It is a good filter and has the name and loyal following built on making good filters for many years.

So what would be the best method for cleaning it and how often? I got the filter in a box with no servicing directions from my local buell dealer. Thanks for all the responses, your help is much appreciated.

You can use a mild soap and water mix.
Swish the filter around in it,rinse gently and let air dry.
Or you can use the K+N filter cleaner, just skip the re-oil part.

Heres what I know from my local dealer when I purchased the race kit for my wifes 9 that came with the new style filter. I told them I wanted the K&N and they had to locate one for me. Harley is using a different filter vendor twice now since they stopped using K&N. And they have had returns on the new style because they were falling apart or actually seperating from the frame of the filter itself on the Screaming Eagle kits.

Ive got the non K&N one and it works great. The race kit was some of the best bang for the buck money I have ever spent and you get the added bonus of it all being Buell parts and having a cool exhaust note.
