I'am a new owner of xb12ss. I have 1800miles on it , rear tire gone ,front deep into wear indicators.On these 208's. That with 1000 mile of break in. I ride 15 to20,000 a year, at this rate my tire bills will equal my bike payments. I normally run road pilots, great grip and 6 to 7000 miles of life. Does anybody run road pilots on there xb's or other sport touring tires , like road attacks ,avon 45/46's ?

With the amount of riding you expect to do, sportbike tires are not an economical way to go... Look into the various sport-touring tires out there... I've had good luck with the "Michelin Pilot Road".... Good compromise between stick and longevity... I was getting about 4500Mi out of the rear on the Pilot Road, while I was luck to see 2800Mi out of the rear w/the stock Dunlops....

I've heard the metzler z6's work well in high milage uses. this is second hand though.

I run Bridgestone 020s on my Hayabusa, and my XB12S. They last pretty well.I get about 9K on the Busa, haven't worn the tire on the Buell out, yet.

Im almost to 7,000 miles on my 12R and still on the stock pair of tires. Rear has about 30% and the front has about 50% left. Dont ask how, Im wondering myself since I used to run 208's on my CBR, and I never have experienced this type of mileage out of a Dunlop. Anyway, look into Metzlers if your looking to switch brands. I have had only positive past experiences with them.

"...Metz Z6's are great tires. They are sport touring tires, and easily outhandle the stock 207's that came on my XB9S. Z6's have a quicker turn in with good high speed stability...and they last MUCH longer. One note about the Z6 rear, it has a slightly taller profile than the 207, you may need to decrease rear preload by 1 click, to compensate.

This is what I have seen:
207 rear 2,700 miles (500 easy breakin miles)
207 front 4,500 miles
1st Z6 rear 5,000
2nd Z6 rear 4,000 so far, probably another 1,500 remaining
Z6 front 7,500 so far, probably another 3000 remaining..."

Also, Pilot Roads have less grip than the Z6 but they will last a little longer.

Pilot Roads on my 12r. I'm getting 7k plus out of the rears and 12k plus out of the front. I got 2100 miles out of the OE rear tire.

8648 on stock pirelli scorps syncs.....love them...probably could have ran them another 1000 if i wanted.....front was definately still useable.....scorp syncs are great rubber.

Pirelli Scorps Syncs I get around 8500 miles out of the rear and they stick really well to boot.

Ran my bike up at the Gap and never felt any loss of grip with the bike leaned over scrapping the pegs.

I got about 2500 miles on my 207's. They were good miles. The tires were great until the end and a flat.

I am now on Michelin Pilot Roads. Seam to be working well. I have found that they do need a little warm up before I hit the twisties (not really a problem). I will replace these with the same tire when needed.

I'll be putting another set of road attacks on mine. They just seem to get better and better as the mileage racks up!
Don't forget to scroll to the bottom to see their latest info. I can imagine with a dedicated track tire, this should be all anyone would need.

I just went with Pirelli Stradas. Havent had a chance to put any miles on them yet. I got the set on Ebay for less than $200. I had Scorpions on there and they wore really well (around 8000 miles or so). I am hoping the Stradas do a little better.

I have had the Pirelli Diablo Stradas on my XB12 for about 2000 miles now and I have nothing but good to say about them. Still look new, scrubbed to the edges, and they have peg-scrapping grip. Wet traction is good, ran the bike up to about 120 mph once in the rain on some long sweepers and they never did anything funky (yes I know that was irresponsible..) Cold riding they can slip just a bit if you are too aggressive with the throttle in turns, but when they do it is very predictable and they grip again quickly. I would definately use them again as I commute and should get at least 7000 miles out of a set.

I also ran the Z6's on my previous SV650 and was happy with them, but I think the Strada might be a hair bit stickier in the dry. Both are wonderful street tires and have more traction that what 75% of riders will actually use.

That being said, with my upcoming track days in the spring, I think I'm going to use the Pilot Powers or the new Dunlops that kicked in the new Sport Rider magazine...

it is how you ride and when you consider your tires worn.
I ride pretty conservitve most of the time as in no drag racing starts (or not much) wearing out the sides is not usualy a problem for street tires.
I have a little over 6,000 miles on my stock 207s and could go more but I think I ran over some glass or somthing there is a small leak in the center. going to go with the continental road attack tires.
have seen 208s with 12,000 miles on them. it was a R6 those things are pretty torqueless compaired to the buells

oh yea and I consider a tire worn when the wear bar is flush with the tread, my 207s are not there yet at 6,000 miles

I also ride fairly conservative except when turning...then I burn up the sides. I consider worn when there is about 1/16" of tread groove left...I am not looking so much at the wear bars but I do keep an eye on the tires when getting a bit close to make sure structural stability is not a concern (funny shapes and colors and whatnot).

Hey U4euh... after seeing your road attacks for myself, considering the mileage and your riding style, you made a believer out of me. My new RA's came two days ago. I hope I can order a new belt next week, and then get started with removal. Finally, Dunlop days are over! I bought the xb used from a dealer with new Dunlops. I got 2500 miles out of them, that was it. The front looks and feels just as bad as the rear.

I like the Metzeler Z6, they run 3 times as long as the D208, and stick better in the wet too. trying some Pirelli sync next.

Changed to Michelin Pilot Powers and found that, not only did my handling improve, but milage is about twice what the stock Dunlops provide.

My choice is the Metezeler...

Right now the cord is showing on my rear Metezeler and I will change the tire before I ride it again...got roughly 6K out of the Metezeler...only got 3800 miles on the original Dunlop. I have a replacement Z6 ready to go as soon as I can get the wheel off the bike!

Me too.
I'm running the Scorpions now, and I don't care for them, it has got to be "all in my head" though.
Mountainrider is running them too, and he flat out haulsass, he just kept pulling away, and pulling away...but that's another story.
I feel much better on the M1s or Diablos, personal preference. I'm not too worried about how long the tires live.

I'm wanting to hear more about the new tires, Dunlop Qualifiers and the
new Metzler MEZ3's. Neither is a mileage tire though.

I ran a set of Pilot Powers through last winter. I got 3300 miles out of the rear. I switched to the Pilot Roads for more mileage. I don't think I gave up much for my street riding and getting more than double the mileage.

I am going to buy a set of pilot powers when I wear out my stock Dunlops. However what line of P powers are people running and getting the best reslts? There is about 4 diff types of pilot powers. Which ones give the best Longevity and performance combined?

I'm a big fan of the Diablos....Two sets now and they have new let me down. I tend to ride hard on them in the hills with Glitch. I got almost 6K on the rear before I got a nail. They had about 500 miles left in them.
