Been lurking on the board for about a month or so for as long as Ive had the bike. This is my first post.I have a 05 XB12s, only mods are the race kit which was installed at the 1000mi service by the dealer. I just moved to San Antonio,TX from Albuquerque. Rode the bike today, after much trial getting it started.It would idle very rough at first start up and would only run for 30 secs before it cut out. Lots of popping from exhaust on decel and if blipping throttle. The bike ran perfect in Albuquerque, before and after the race kit install. I have 1500 miles on the bike. I rode the back for about 30 min today, it was fully warmed up and idled ok but still popping from exhaust on decel and a very noticeable flat spot from 2500-3000 rpm where there was no flat spots before. I thought the ecm adjusted for altitude, my BMW runs exactly as it did in Albuquerque, except it seems to have more power, which I attribute to the lower altitude. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Wanna get the opinions of the board before I head to the dealer that Ive never dealt with before.Thanks a bunch | ||

Disconnect the battery and try again, mine did the same thing once, long ago, no prob ever since. | ||

I am guessing there is a significant altitude change between the two places. I live in KC and took my bike to Colorado for a weekend of riding. When I unloaded it in CO, the bike ran pretty rough for the first 15 minutes while the ECM adjusted. Once it relearns, it will be fine. Then, when I took it back to KC and started it, the exact same thing happened. I rode it around for about a half hour and it relearned itself again for the new elevation. Just go out and ride it. If you can get it to start and run ride it in 4th or 5th gear with a light load for a few miles that will start adjusting the closed loop. You can also go to a dealer tell them what you told us and they can reset the AFV back to 100%. I would guess that the difference in altitude between San Antonio,TX and Albuquerque could be as much as 2K feet. I would bet that the AFV in Albuquerque was in the mid 90% and in those low hills of San Antonio,TX it should be right around 100%. ... Terry | ||

My experience is that the FI can adjust poorly in new temp or altitude conditions and can take a while to adjust. Then it will run fine. Try to stay in the learning range, which I think is around 3200-3500 rpm for about 10 minutes. Mine has run like a new bike after doing that. |
