I know I shouldn't be doing burnouts but I'm a fool and want to!
I went to do one on bitumen and lost it because my front shot up instead.
Please can I get some tips because this can cost a lot of money and hurts.

What can I say! I'm a fool

try putting your front tire against a wall or be on the back brake and ready for such a incident. Dont feel too bad I did the same thing and crashed through a fence in front of my buddy and my girlfriend.

Confusious say, if your tire is spinning ,you are not getting traction and therefore are not making effective forward progress.

But, it sure does look cool!!

Front brake, lean forward, give it some gas (enough to keep the motor goin but not like screamin) then let the clutch out slowly.
Do not pop the clutch, the bike will just shoot out from under you.
You need to have a fight for traction and have the front tire win. It will take some practice, but you'll get the hang of it and be buying tires in no time.

Did a nice burnout on my Ducati before I put a new set of tires on it. It did quite well. The trick is to stand up and get all your weight off the seat and lean forward on the bars. Hold the front brake, bring the RPMs up, and SLOWLY ease out the clutch and the rear tire will begin to spin. As soon as it's spinning, you can give it more throttle and enjoy your smokey reward. : )

Also, use second gear. reduces torque and increases wheel spin.

You can usually even start out in second gear that way you get more wheel spin, hence more smoke and attention from pedestrians...

I say if you need bleach, water, beer....etc. to smoke a tire you are cheating. It's not hard to do without additives and it will smoke just fine.

And might I second what Charlieboy sed:

Make the burnout the LAST thing you do before removing the wheel and changing the tire - since you just vulcanized/hardened the compound with the heat cycle.

When I do burnouts, I get on the ball of my feet to get my weight off the rear of the bike, rev it to about 3500-4000rpm and dump the clutch WHILE HOLDING THE FRONT BRAKE. I cant get mine to spin if I let out on the clutch gently it pushes the front tire, dumping the clutch seems to break the tire loose and get it spinning better. Be careful how you lean or turn the handle bars the bike will try to move, if you want to do a circle, keep the handle bars straight and take baby steps walking it around, NEVER LET OFF THE FRONT BRAKE unless you you want to start rolling forward. My buddy tried doing a burnout on a curb once and didn't use the front brake, just revved it up and dumped the clutch (it was his first time) well he almost had to buy our local hooters a new front door. I don't do burnouts anymore till my tires shot Pilot powers are waaaay to expensive to waste like that.

Check out this short "Instructional Video" for doing burnouts on a Buell. It is the first one at the top of the page and is entitled BLAST BURNOUT.
