Fellow Buellers --

Two weeks ago tomorrow, I was pulling a glass out of my cupboard when it shattered and the heavy (and sharp) base of the glass slashed my right wrist -- severing several nerves and tendons -- rendering my hand useless.

Surgery went ok -- rehab is laborious and painful -- and riding my new (to me) Firebolt is out of the question for at least two months.

Weather in ATL has been great for riding -- and I'm tempted to feel sorry for myself. Then -- I take a look around me and realize that I really have no problems whatsoever.

Message: count your blessings and take NOTHING -- especially your health -- for granted.

Merry Christmas --

Here here!

You'll ride again, it'll just take a little patience & a lot of self control.

Hang in there Guzzimon.
I lost the use of my left hand for 1. 1/2 years.
All because of a hit & run driver.

Hand rehab is tough, the one thing I learned is
listen to the experts. I tried to rush my rehab
and it just slowed things down.

Good luck and Merry Christmas.

I sliced a couple fingers open last year during a kitchen incident involving a heavy glass bowl. I couldn't ride for a few months. (Throttle hand) After they healed, they don't bend like they used to and I have nerve (numb) damage. They have abby-normal reactions now to cold and warming. Health is always #1. Without it...you really have little.

I didn't realize this type of accident happened so frequently... a good friend of mine pulled a glass milk bottle out of the fridge a few weeks ago and sliced through nerves, tendons, etc. as well. I guess one tendon shot part way up his arm ( ! ) he's in rehab/therapy now but things are looking up.

He lives out in CO, avid snowboarder, been bummed out for the last few 'cause he's jonesin' for some play in the POW but therapy is going well.

Don't rush it, stick with therapy and let your body heal properly. You'll be back on that 'bolt in no time.

I have neuro noma in my left arm, it makes my left hand less than useful at times. It's just something I have to deal with. I've had several surgeries, and the healing time gets greater and more difficult each time. I hate it, but...at least we have good weather to miss.

Guys --

Thanks. It's already getting easier to move the fingers -- and I know the nerves in my hand are coming back because every hour or so I have a pain shoot through my hand that makes my whole body pop.

That cartoon is killin' me.

It would seem that glass is more dangerous to bikers than left-turners!

Oh, and I love the awful coyote thing.

I feel your pain, dude. I laid my 9R down, broke my right thumb and have been wearing a cast for over a month, with several more weeks to go. And the riding weather here in Florida has been great. It sucks to see other bikers enjoying the day on their rides and knowing I can't participate. But like you said, if this is the worst of my problems, then I'm a lucky sob.
