I'm planning on having a swing arm powdercoated. What's the best way to remove the bearings from the swing arm? Also, since I know powdercoating will add thickness to that area, what can I do to prevent powdercoating from getting to that surface area for the bearings? Anything else I should be aware of. |

Leave the bearings in during powder coating, and then replace them after.... |

Yep - otherwise go to an automotive machine shop and have them pressed out. You can't really do it easily in the garage without a press. Powdercoating shops should have plugs to fit almost any holes so that when the powder spray hits the hot metal, it only goes where it's supposed to. You might ask the powdercoater about the best way it would work for them. I'd think they would probably want the bearings out. |

The bearings may fall out during the heating process. |

I was thinking it was probably best to remove the bearings in order to prevent the grease, etc. from leaking out when it's in the oven. |

Have them removed beforehand but be sure that the coater is aware that the machined areas for the bearings are to be masked off. If the guy is any good he will already know this but I would not leave it to chance.... |
