It's no mystery what the outer airbox cover on the new bikes looks like (with that new air intake):  Can someone please post pics of the inner airbox cover? I'm think along the more is better and incorporating a new airbox cover (or cutting) to have essentially two intakes. The left air scoop plus the airbox intake. I't be a way to accomplish more intake yet maintain a stock look. I like mods that do not detract from the beauty of this bike... | ||

Great Pic! I need a part# and price for that trim/intake piece. Great looking! Just the trim not the whole outer cover. Anyone? I would also like the part # of the trim piece on the intake and if it can be fitted to an '04 XB12R. Hope Dave can come up with it. | ||

Midknyte follow down in the link Keys has given and you will see a good shot of my airbox RHS. The four slots in the inner airbox (that you can see in the picture) are the only difference to the previous models' inner airbox. I will soon be cutting similar slots all the way round to show off more of the insides. As a far as the new air-intake screen goes, just behind it is the inner airbox cover. Talk about a major restriction of airflow! I think a large quantity of the supplied air travels up from the gaps around the outer cover to frame, and from below where there are gaps around the frame and inner airbox base. At least the new screen is a good cosmetic start.  | ||

I have the open air box cover from American Sport Bikes so it should not have that restriction. | ||

I saw a Ulysses in person and being curious about the extra fuel capacity I could not find the snorkel...I think the hole in the frame is not there on the newer bikes which is how they got part of the extra capacity. That plus the frame seemed a bit wider when sitting on both the Uly and Ss... | ||

You're right Loavematt. The snorkel is removed in the SS and Uly. I believe that is how they are getting the extra fuel. I'm not sure if the frame is actually wider or not. | ||

Actually, the pass-though is gone on ALL 2006 models. The frame is different on the Uly and SS and has more capacity than the other models. | ||

I go off and wonder about these things, so you'll have to forgive and educate me... I wonder, if with having the left side air scoop and this additional opening behind the gas cap, if it wouldn't do the opposite of what I desire. In that, air comming in the side scoop is under pressure [albiet even just a little] while riding - and I would imagine, as aerodynamics go, that there'd be a pocket/vacuum created by the windscreen - creating a scenario where air might be gettting scooped in the left side intake and pulled through and out of the hole at the front of the airbox cover. Might I actually end up starving the engine instead of allowing more air in? | ||

'knyte, I over-thought it the same way until I tried it. Tried it and rode it without the inner-airbox OR outer, just the filter in place. The engine gets plenty of air regardless of any "turbulence" or vacuum that might be occurring. I figure the only thing that should dictate the amount of air the engine gets is the butterfly valve and the suction of the engine itself. No box or tall velocity stack or vacuum or ram... OR gremlins wisps and spirits. I want all the available air sitting there waiting for the throttle to spring open. Like it tends to do! | ||

If anything, wouldn't the constant exchange of air be good? Nice cooled air as opposed to overheated air stuck in the airbox. | ||

You can't buy the 06 inlet, you have to get a whole new airbox cover. Badweb price is 185.40 | ||

Went by the dealership today and they said the trim vent piece is not available separately from the outer airbox. Oh well... But it wouldn't hurt for someone else to ask someplace else. | ||
