I work with a good amount of people that ride inline 4's. They consist of GSXR600,CbRR, Ninjas, and a R1. They have all owned there rides for a good while longer then I have. Every single day when I pull up and park mine there is at least one person usually more crowded around my bike asking questions and complimenting it. Never theyre's. I guess it had hurt theyre egos or aroused a certain kind of ignorant interest in Buells. Well ever since I got mine they have always tried to make little remarks like "when we gonna race?" "Man thats a mini bike" "You could of bought a 900 for that price"..lol on and on. Had no clue as to even what a Buell was. wich I like. Well almost everyday the friendly proding goes back and forth. I donot ever talk BS about racing them because I know alot has to do with the rider and if theyre on the straights. I tell them we have different animals and leave it at that. I have nothing to prove to anyone is the way I see it. Well finaly I decided to go out for a ride with them yesterday. I had a awesome time.
There is a road that they call "the twisties" they wanted to go on. This road they("the I4 boys") have riden for 4 months now on a regular basis. I consider this they're territory because of theyre familiarity with it. I have been on this road ONE time. Well "sure" I say and off we go. This road has pretty wide sweeping turns you can maintain a good 70-90 through most of them. Well we get there and off we go the first time through them Im in the middle of the pack. Get to the end and guess who is left about a 1/8 th mile behind ya the gsxr. Right in front of me only because I didnt want to pass was the CBRR. The look on they're faces was priceless. They couldnt beleive it. All theyre crap talking and it was all shot down. I think learning had occured that jap bikes arent gods only gift to motorcycling. It was a look of humblement. All theyre s^&t talking went right down the drain and it made them look silly. Here we were now going back and forth having a good time and each time I was getting faster and was pushing the bike a little more. Never once did I feel like the bike was even close to being at its limits. I found myself having to slow down more and more as not to run onto the back of them or leaving them behind on they're own turff. They had been riding this road for months now. After this we decided to go to some roads near my house that have even tighter twisties(35-55mphs).I knew what was coming next. We "had to" take the interstate to get there, "sure" I say. Humm straights. Well the R1 was gone after dropping some gears. But the cbrr, It wasnt really that much more quicker at all. Unless it droppped down a couple gears and totally gunned it. Then it only would pull slowly away. Da Ja voo the humblesome look revisited they're faces when we got to the exit ramp. lol
Well I take the lead and we get to the road that has the tighter twisties and I scream through them I have been on them maybe 8 times before. I had a better idea of how they are so i had to slow down and point out the real tight turns before they got to them. I get to the end of them and wait for them to catch up. Now it was conveniently "smoke break" and BS time. I thought we were gonna ride the twisties. lol After about 10 mins of BS I say lets hit the turns and guess what. Ya "uhh we got to go." I got to go get the kids...etc,etc. Lol They didnt want to ride any real twisties i guess. I had a good time though.

Been there. Had people on the usual CBR, R6/1, GSXR, ZX's. blah blah blah fast this fast that. Oh look, turn. Can't seem to shake me, eh?

I've learned that I don't need to prove anything. Doing so only causes me to get into trouble. When I ride for fun I have more fun. I didn't buy my bike to prove anything to anyone. Just to have fun. Just it seems those who go out to prove that their Yahonkawuki is faster tend to find they're not having fun when the one who isn't competing with them somehow manages to ride their or overtakes them on the turns.

I maintain it's the rider, more than the bike.

I mind one time I embarrassed a couple of visiting GSXR riders in my local mountains--on my 1982 Yamaha Seca 550. I kept expecting them to pass, but they never did. I certainly had NO advantage bike-wise (they later told me they felt that I was "riding the sh** outta that thing!")

To be honest, I don't feel I ride that much faster on my Buell, but I do feel that much safer doing it! (modern suspension and tires will have that effect...)

Exactly.. Thats one reason I got it. It handles so good, I feel safer. When a rider has a little more confidence in the bike you learn more I think because you dont have the distraction of the bike possibly getting squirby on ya.

Excellent posts. Nice thing about the Buell is that it does give you a confident feeling. I also, as Sgthigg said, feel safer. I find when folks make negative comments about the Buells, they usually have a case of alligator mouth and hummingbird a**. Easy way to fix em-let em ride one. I have more friends that are interested in the Buell line just because they rode mine. They also hate it when a group of us is riding and John Q. Public wants to check out my Buell over their sport bike. On the down side of this was the recent State Patrolman riding the latest BMW, who wanted to check mine out. Pulled me over with the 1 finger, c'mon over here, and then walked my bike for a good 5 minutes, asking questions, this and that. He finished by saying nice machine. THEN, "License and Registration Please." "I got you at 92 MPH coming out of that curve down there at 1384'." Only thing I said was, "it wasn't me officer" with the straightest face I could muster. Suffice to say-it didn't work. Oh well-I know-tell it to the judge!

I'm too chicken to ride that hard on the roads so I take my XBR to a track (preferably short and technical) use decent tyres......and after riding round them, I watch R1, ZX10, GSXR, Blade and even Ducati riders checking their bikes to see whats wrong with 'em............it's the best fun you can have with your clothes on!!!
