I just got back from Laminar in Santa Ana. They designed a Speed Shield for for my XBs. It's now available on their site for $79 http://www.laminarlip.com/speed3.htm They need a Firebolt (and I am assuming a Uly) to design for those models as well. Contact Leo there for more info. |

Picture looks nice! how much difference does it make at freeway speed? Do you think it's worth it? I love my 12S, but the wind gets rough at 80mph+ and if it solves that problem, I'll have to get one. |

It's much better at 80 than it was before. In the words of Josh at Laminar, "It's no Goldwing." True that, but it really is an improvement over that poker chip of a fairing.

Not sure if I'm biased, but the only good looking laminarlip shield that looks cool is the one on that Lightning. The rest of the bikes just look goofy. |

looks like they used the one they already had made for the speed triple. It looks too wide at the bottom to me. That could be because of the angle of the pic though. |

Laminar will sell a lot of these. I am surprised Buell hasn't made a similar accessory. |

CHA-ching! If that thing is easily detachable, I'll be buying one. Thanks for the info. Bill |

Hey, Diablo, it is wide at the bottom, but it actually looks cool that way. Weird. It really looks like it belongs there. I think that a Uly fairing might be bigger and look a bit more finished, but the Laminar has a more badass feel to it. They took a few other shots of my bike while I was there. You may want to ask them to see them. |

funny this came up now. i've been trying to figure out how i could either fit the whole ULY fairing to my City-X or maybe just the clear portion of the stepped windscreen. i'm anxious to see some more pics of this on the lightning before i decide. |

i had a laminarlip on my bmw r1100sa. It will blow right the hell off and hit you in the helmet!!!!! I drilled holes and used small black allen bolts. But I had it mounted on a custom taller windshield. |

It dosen't look like that thing will stay on at speeds. Going 80 passing an 18wheeler going 80 and I think it will be ripped right off. Any real world info? |

The thing looks sturdy to me. But I tell you what, I have altered my Last Will to state that in the event of a decapitation by windshield appendage, my brother will post the details to this forum. |

Hey Heretic, have you passed any large trucks with it i.e. head on passing. I want some more protection also but the carbon fiber is not something I want now. For under $100 it would be a good deal if it holds up to the abuse of daily use. I ride daily and need something to stay on and together through out the seasons. |

The Dual-lock fasteners that come with the Speed Shield are really strong. I put about 50 highway miles on it at 90, and it didn't budge. You can also use bolts to attach it, but you'd have to drill into the stock fairing. From their website: "If you are a rider that pushes the envelope of what can logically be expected of the Dual Locks perhaps you might elect to use nylon machine screws to mount the LIP. We at Laminar offer to send these fasteners free to anyone that desires them. We however, cannot warrant any products damaged by this drilling or fastening procedure." Here's some more info about the adhesive. http://www.laminarlip.com/generalinformation.htm |
