well i had some extra cash at the end of summer. so i thought about what i wanted to do to my bike.. after some debate i decided to chrome my rims. i like shiny stuff. so i took it in to my local dealer which i am lucky they are only 4 miles from my house and they are really nice there. i had to have some work done to my bike i figured we could send the rims off and have them done at the same time. no problems right? Wrong they sent them off when they got back the chromer had chromed every thing. where the bearings go, where the sprocket mount's everything...... nothing would fit back on. ok they said we will ship it back to them and make them fix it...cool they said they would fix it....wrong again they sent the rim back the same way as the first time. so they said send it back again. so they did and when it came back for the 3rd time they the sprocket fit on but the bearing wouldn't fit in and when they tried to press the bearing it lifted all the chrome around the edge...so we sent back again...is this starting to sound like a pattern hear? any way we sent it off for the 4th time... when it got back they did nothing but chrome over top of the old chrome which is still chipping off. ok that brings us to the present now. my rims are sitting in the shop waiting on us to decide what to do with them..this has been a real nightmare. i really want to have chrome rims. does any body on here know of a good chromer or have had their rims chromed? just looking for some advice on what to do.. thank you for listening to me ramble.. cant wait to see what some of you guy's have to say... | ||

dang man. I say f'em. I'd ask for the chromer to pay for new rims. Then, if you still don't like the color, go powder coat... durable, no polishing. sorry to hear your troubles... sounds to me like the chromer is over worked or smokin on the job. | ||

Jim I had some wheels done a couple years ago by Classic Components.... www.chromeplating.com they did a perfect job.I did however had to run a tap through all holes just to clean them up and they either plugged or did some type of masking in the area's where the bearings go.  | ||

Yeah I had about 600 into them back to my door. Keep in mind though that XB wheels are gonna cost more cause the amount of detail in the rims especially the front one.They have to be a pain in the arse to polish them for the plating process. I talked to a guy at the Drag strip this past summer that had a set of XB wheels done for there Drag V-Rod and he payed if I remember right 450 for the front alone to get done. Heres a pic of it.  | ||

DanaP... i paid a little over $400 for the front and $600 for the rear. and they don't look very good at all. they look like they are corroding in the little recessed areas at the end of the spokes where it meets the outer rim. it is hard to tell but it doesn't look like that rim is doing that. | ||

well here is the latest new's. they are sending the rim back to the chromers for the 5th time. they are going to strip the wheel completely and rechrome it again. if it is not right this time they are buying me a new set of rims..it should be back by the end of the week. i will keep you posted. |
