my xb12r is being written off by state farm .. they are offering me CA$11500 roughly (cost i paid, less gst & deduct) for bike .. or i can take bike as salvage & a chk for CA$7500 roughly.

harley *expert* says i need new frame & new bloddy everything .. & are being non-commital abt whether it is ride-able w/ frame slightly dented. i saw very little & few dents .. afterall, top triple was snapped in crash.

anyway .. i see few things that are really f**ked on it.

being that i like rigid chops, harleys, my buell & sportbikes .. i am interested in yr opinions . i can't make up my mind right now.

i have built a rigid xlh ironhead before .. & still have it .. i like the idea of using that pushrod for a streetfighter bobber/dropseat w/ buell wheels & reliablity of F.I. instead of carbs .. & will make a bike to suit that end if i do same.

anyone done this w/ an '03+ (mines '05) xb?

i saw a confederate hellcat in a dealer in arizona & like the Ecosse Heretic .. kinda the idea of an italian styled harley powered streetfighter, afterall, the ducati monster is a bit too much UJB.

so .. take the right-off check & pay off loan & wait till summer .. or, take the bike & half check & build an xb chop & sell whatever can't use on eGay?!

thanks guys!

buells rock anyway, even if i can't ride 'em!!??! ;P

I am no expert, but I would think you have a good thing going there even though I am a complete moron who doesn't know exchange rates. I say, keep the bike and part it out. I have somebody who wants a motor, so I may be compromised.

If insurance is willing to give you that kind of money for the bike you should take it. You couldn't sell the bike if it was cherry for that.

From a former ins. adjuster and general motor head. If your world revolves around building bikes and trading parts. Then consider going into the junk or custom world. But unless I had a paticular project, buyer, or financing in mind, I'd take that fantasic $$$ offer an wor on my next ride.

Considering I just paid $9900 for a new '05 XB12R with the full race kit I would take the money and run. I basically paid $9100-9200 for the bike and msrp for the kit and labor. They're offering you a great deal. $11,500 CAD is equal to $9,822.13 USD. Not to shabby.

Take the money and buy a new one. Save yourself the hassle of projects. I (and everyone else I know) start projects with the best of intentions but never seem to finish on time (or at all), or on budget. Go get another bike so you can go riding again!

That's great, keep us informed of the work to get the bike fixed. That really is a win, win, you get the bike, and you get money to fix said Bike. Hell, you can even buy you a nice used bike with the left-over leftover money. Schweet!

we - me & service manager at hd dealership - looked it over & felt it needed only a new front end, as nothing else was damaged in any serious or even aesthetic way .. if u were really anal it needs a few things, but seriously its a small job.

anyway, its done now & i LOVE working on projects .. i am enrolled in MMI, but had to delay due to finances, so a project is cool w/ me.

also, i put deposit on '06 R1 .. the *kenny roberts* 50th anniversary yellow & black & white one .. so once the snow stops - april or may - i will have a nice smooth ride, a fixed xb12r & well, i'll have to sell the ironhead bobber to fund the R1.

will build another vtwin custom one day.

: )
