The title to this thread talks of 130BHP from a Ducati Monster. How can a Monster with TESTASTRETTA motor, never mind the upgrade stoppers and suspension etc, lack appeal. Where do some folks get it from? If anyone thinks that particular Ducati lacks appeal, respectfully pee off to a scooter board! I don't like it either. Don't like the big honking mufflers or the big honking ugly radiator. I'd rather have 50 less HP and a more artistic better integrated motorcycle. | ||

I'm for the new "S4rs".the plumbing is somewhat unsightly but,TOP shelf components and engine performance are well worth it.Excellent stripper.And the newer 'Stretta is easier to work on.Real "valve covers" that expose the entire rocker area...Cool. | ||

Rocket I was trying to say its ugly nicely. The bike doesn't look aggressive at all it looks tired. It reminds me of a 80s honda. All it's missing is a banana seat. I wish Buell would offer a real performance engine like that. I like the looks of the XBS more, and love the chassis, but would like more power from a close-to-stock, reliable bike. | ||

It's all personal preferences. U like it, you like it. U don't, then, u don't. Express as you like, it's your opinion. Personally I love the look of my XB12S. The stock Monster looks a bit "unfinished". However, w/ some mods, it could get sick real fast. man in that Monster there are hopups and accessories for other 8000$ (at least)... it is like another bike you buy some big add-ons for XB with that money!!!!!!!!! | ||

Anyway, I wasn't trying to offend anyone with my sharp tongue  Before I ever clapped eyes on a Streetfighter Buell I was seriously wanting a Monster. 900's were very expensive when they first hit the street, and out of my budget. 600's were too small and under powered. Then I met an S1 on the cover of a magazine, and the rest as they say ' is history'. I've always liked the Monster. What I find so endearingly pleasing about them is when you do see them in the flesh, and no they don't litter the streets of England, they do look so much nicer than in any picture. The S4R looks stunning in Blue with the White Stripes. To be honest, I practically walked right past the Red and White Stripe Testa Monster at the recent NEC show but shows are no real place to see bikes like this. They just don't stand out enough. In fact, put a line of Buells together and they suffer the same fate. Pull up outside the coffee bar on one, and you'll get more attention than any other bike in the bike park. Monsters are cool and I wouldn't knock one on the grounds of pipes (that you will change if you owned one anyway) or radiators. I would agree that it might put me off owning one though, but I still might like them as a bike. Rocket | ||

I think everybody liked the Monster when it came out. It's a masterpiece in the world of the naked bikes. But now it's like a 65yr old women that does mastoplastic surgery. (with all the respect to those women who did it  ) | ||

I like monsters more now that we just sold ours. We had an air cooled 750, and although it was a great bike, I wouldn't own another. It was definitely a far cry from the ones shown here, though. Just my personal opinion. Monsters of old had to have too much work done to them to get them to run fairly well. These new ones are a different story though. Nice bikes anyway. | ||

I really didn't appreciate them all that much until I saw one in person. They recently announced an air cooled version, Blake, called the S2R 1000. Its the same engine used in the Multistrada which, *ahem*, happens to be a ULY competitor. | ||

hmph... nice for a duc. I'd be curious to see how well that dash console holds up in the rain. I prefer guages with needles but if a GPS could be integrated into an all-digital dash like that and be waterPROOF, I'd definitely fall on that side of the fence with regard to instruments. I bought an 03 Ducati 749S about 3 months after I bought my 04 XB12R. Long story short, the Ducati got sold after a year and only 3000mi., and the Buell reigns supreme after more than 2 years and 25k miles. I ride with a guy who has a tricked out Monster and I must admit it is very nice. A matter of personal preference and pride for me is my Buell, made in the good old US of A. | ||

The story doesn't mention MSRP for the S4Rs. I have to say, if I'm expected to pay over $12k for it then it'd better not have those crimp seals at the edges of the fuel tank... whatever happened to Italian world-class industrial design? | ||

You will definately pay over 12 grand for a S4R and those tanks with the crimped edges?? Well lets just say a basic black tank for a 2005 S4R will run ya $1800.00 for the tanks alone and going all the way to $2500.00 for the carbon fiber tank. Hows that for Italian world class industrial design?? |
