Well, it seems that Gainsville HD sold an '06 Lightning XB12Ss Long to a customer with a Drummer SS already installed. The customer has had it for a couple of months now and he was just taking off from a stop light. He punched it a bit too hard and looped it over backwards. All that torque off the bottom caught him by surprise. The Drummer & rider are Ok but the bike took a pretty good hit.

We may have to add a restrictor plate so folks don't hurt themselves.....

I told him to be careful. I said "These 1200s have ALOT of low end grunt, and this one with the Drummer is doubly dangerous." It sucks to have it happen over Thanksgiving for the guy, but he is OK and the bike will get put back into running condition.

Don't ever launch on the street with your foot off the brake...

Does he want to sell the Drummer?
Maybe he would be better off with something a little less potent like the Factory Race Can.
Let's be frank.
Not every streetfighter out there can handle the Drummer, can they?

I don't think it was ALL the Drummer's fault, those bikes launch easy no matter what you have under them.

Now I don't feel I am such a girl asking Opto to take mine off, glad to hear Rider is Okay.
Have to agree with Cochise my bike launches easy without the SS, but take it from me with it on she becomes a WEAPON. Unfortunately I am not licensed to carry one YET.Hee! Hee!

Kev, I love the new model. On behalf of myself and a few others I know here I'd like to address Dana. Dana, I find it quite tacky how it seems that you have been on a lot of Drummer forums I read in the past year, making snide comments. I realize you are always "just funn'n" but it looks more like insecurity to me. We all know you don't use your Drummer anymore. We all know that your D&D pipe can cure cancer. You've made your choice in pipes and trust me,,,,,It is VERY obvious, through many Drummer forum, which one you are endorsing. What's the point in having such an interest in the Drummmer when you have something far superior? Honestly Dana, I think you are hurting D&D's business. I realize you may take this as a flame job, but it's not.I am just trying to see what angle you are coming from when the word Drummer comes into play. Sorry to be hijacker Jersey. Keep up the great work Kevin. I still love MY pipe 12,000 miles later and that is what has made me a very satisfied customer, and future repeat customer to KDfab.

Jason I just complimented Kevin on his pipe.Looks great. On the other hand I like the D&D also. Also like the factory race can thats on my wifes XB9.I haven't commented on a Drummer thread in a long time actually. And on many threads have said pick the one you like they are all good.So Jason you really don't have your facts completely straight.I don't think this is a flame job at all. Also that great that you are happy with your pipe, that what its all about.Remember I never said once that Drummer is a bad pipe.Happy Holidays.

"LoL it'll do that stock.BTW nice marketing strategy"

Did you already forget that one? I had to do a search for that quote. It took about 2 seconds by scrolling up a few posts. I also agree that you never said the Drummer was a bad pipe. That's why it was never brought up in my post. I don't understand how the integrity of facts come into play when you did exactly as I stated.

In Dana's defense, the post RIGHT BEFORE HIS, I said that the Drummer wasn't at fault for the twelve O'Clock. The XB 12's are snappy no matter what pipe you have on it and throttles that are twisted quickly will put you on your arse.

Ya never know Jersey. I can honestly say that I like my pipe now but at times and I mean some times I could go for a little less noise..... usually longer rides. I need to see the new one with the mounts for the body work, hear it and then Hey you never know it could happen one day. You guys need to take a break and come up here for Buell Homecoming in June.

Dana, I'd love to come up but my youngest daughter is is getting married on July 8th and I doubt her mother would let me go considering all the preparations for a wedding. After this one I'm done. Two girls, two college educations and 2 weddings.....

If you look at the updated kdfab website there are pretty good pictures of the new Drummer SS. I can send you some of that front mount if you like - it's rock solid (I designed it myself). Kevin's worked out a way to mount the chin spoiler too.

I have nothing aginst a drummer at all, because i have yet to own one, and i hear nothing but great things about them... but its hard to believe when people say that they turn your bike into a whole new monster and such. Can just a pipe make that kind of difference?!

It is a combination of things...if going from a stock setup to a more free flowing exhaust yes this could be the case. When that free flowing exhaust is "matched" to the bike this is especially so. For example in the case of a hot rod if you put an open exhaust(no mufflers at all) on a cam that gives good torque off idle...that would not be a good match because the exhaust wants the max revs and airflow but the cam does not provide this. But if you put semi normal sized headers and fairly free flowing mufflers, that is a pretty good match in most cases.

At least on the XB9 the stock setup is really restricted for both intake and exhaust (the 12 has a pretty good exhuast comparitively). This means the motor has to work hard to both suck in air and breathe it out. Think in terms of you breathing through a straw vs a wide open mouth.

When the intake and exhaust are opened up the motor actually has resistance taken away as it tries to breath and so it "opens up" the motor and allows it to rev up faster (harder acceleration) and perform better.

In my case I went from stock to just a Race ECM, K&N Air Filter, XB12 Air Filter Cover, and Drummer and it literally ran like a different bike. There was more power everywhere and especially so down low in the RPM range. Plus my mileage really did not change for normal riding. When playing around it went down but that is the price for having fun.

Buell_892,
The Drummer is specifically designed for the engine configuration of the Buells...if it didn't make a difference in power delivery then I wouldn't make it period....there's no point in making another muffler like everyone elses and tune another 500rpm out of it to sell it, get a Drummer, you won't be desappointed....most of my customers have had other brands on their bikes first.....it's your choice, enjoy your bike....

From what i hear, i know i would be very pleased, they are just so dang expensive and im a poor college student that just happened to get lucky enough to get a sweet XB for my ride : ) Eventually I will save the cash and get a drummer tho, Ill prob have to get the classic or whatever its called... I think the SS is out of my price range.. unless you give military discounts
