It's time for my 2500 mile service on the XB9SX (I haven't been riding much, long story...). Before I get raped by the dealership, can anyone let me know what this service should include and how much to pay? Thanks guys! | ||

The 2005s have a 1000 mile and 5000 mile service intervals, so... Assuming you've done the 1000 mile service, you're still good to 5000 miles. Check the engine oil and primary fluid levels, primary chain tension, tire pressure, brakes and you should be ok for another 2500. Pick up a service manual, if you have some hand tools, pretty much all of the typical service stuff can be done at home. Alex | ||

If you are going to service the bike yourself, you might want to visit my Official Buell Lubrification Supplier: Walmart:-) They have Mobil One oil at very attractive prices and their ST 4967 oil filter was exactly the same as the Buell part the last time I bought one, at one quarter the price. Many Badwebbers feel that their bikes run cooler and shift easier with Mobil One. 15W50 in the motor, 75W90 gear oil in the primary. | ||

If you want to save some cash and dont have a buell oil filter just go to a auto store and get a purolater filter p#L14476 works perfect and save money. Dont worry about it not being a official buell product, do you actually think hd and buell manufacture there own special filters aaaa no! I think the filters the xb's use are the same as some older toyota camerys. | ||

What I find weird is the owners manual says to change the oil every 5k. But if you look in the service manual, that states if you ride in dusty conditions, over 60 mph, in temps over 80 degrees, or 2 up for extended periods, to change the oil every 2500. How many people don't do at least 2 of these? By the way save $200 and do it yourself. All it is changing the oil, primary/trans fluid, checking the pri chain, and looking over your bike make sure nothing is loose or fell off. (Message edited by socalbueller on November 20, 2005) | ||

you can send you oil out for analysis also if you want to see if you can go to 5,000 miles. there are a lot of companies out there that do oil analysis. | ||

Would you compare the difficulty level of changing the case and engine oil to that of a regular car? Anybody actually think having a good Buell dealer do the check over is worth 80% of the cost? | ||

JAK, it's actually quite easy. The oil in the swingarm has the petcock on the bottom on the stand side, and depending on where the plug is on the bottom of the primary case, in respect of the exhaust can, it should be easy as well. The only problem with refilling both is getting to funnel to the fill holes. (Message edited by cochise on November 20, 2005) | ||

Aren't you supposed to use a special kind of motorcycle oil. I think I trust Mobil oils and would rather pick that up at my autoparts store. What's suggested for a bike that has 6k miles? | ||

They say you are, but no motor oil has a tag on it inside the motor that says it's motorcycle oil or car oil. | ||
