Ok everyone,

I have talked to the wife quite extensively, and this winter i am cleaning up the ol X1 and selling her.. She has been a great bike (my first new bike accually). and i have logged a many miles on her. Met a good many of you w/ her too. But i am gonna see what i can do about going to ol Dave there and getting me a NEW BIKE!! My only problem is this.. I know i am getting a 12 not a 9... I just am not sure if i want the Ss (due to being 6'2"; ), 12X (see last reason, and the luggage) or the 12R (cause i LOVE THE LOOK and you can get saddlebags fairly cheap).

I know when i get one i will have Dave put the race kit on, and if i go w/ the R then i will swap out the levers, heel protectors, and seat for the pro series (orange ones, and comfy seat).

Chime in people what would be the best fit? I log about 12-15K miles a year on my buell 80-90% highway (72 miles to work from my house). but when i go riding w/ Spidy the twisties come a callin.

So question #1 which one would fit me best
#2 should i get the race kit, or K&N D&D, and Race ECM seperate
#3 WHAT THE HELL TOOK ME SO DARN LONG!??

If I only had one bike it would be a Uly.
Perfect for the commute
Great luggage
Very capable in the twisties(trust me)

K&N D&D, and Race ECM Would be my choice.
WHAT THE HELL TOOK ME SO DARN LONG!?? My guess is you were happy with the X1. It's now time to be happy with an XB.
I like the Ss of the three.
But for what you listed there the Uly makes the most sense.
Congrats and enjoy!

What Daves says.
It is also best for a passenger. May we assume that after all this heartfelt discussion with the Missus, that she might care to go for a ride from time to time?
Otherwise it would be the 12Ss. More comfortable, more stable on the Interstate, better for a passenger by far.
You don't need cheap saddle bags for the XB12R: you dont want to ride it too far from home:-)
Race kit is the best deal, D+D seems to be the most effective can according to knowledgeable Bad Webbers

I have an "R". I am 6'1" and shrinking (height wise). I have Heli-bars, Buell Touring seat and "S" model pegs and Double Bubble. Very comfortable for sportbike. As mentioned you can get soft luggage for the bike.

Based on your usage (highway) I would think the "X" would be best. The "Ss" will not have the same wind protection as the "R" or "X". But you do not have the wind protection on your current bike and seem to have done okay...so maybe the "Ss" would be the one

However, all that being said, part of a motorcycle purchase is emotional preference. If you get the "X" or the "Ss" will you be lusting after the "R" and regretting...

Sure have helped a lot haven't I

PS - See Daves and test ride all three....pick one and never look back

I love my R but if I could only have one bike it would be a Uly.

That there in lies the problem.. I will have to test ride them here in Michigan and get the fundage all set from the bank before i head out there.. But keep the ideas rollin.. And if you know anyone that wants a nice X1 let me know.. the sooner the better.. LMAO

The X is right up there w/ the R but i just like the R w/ the looks a bit more than the Ss or the X, but then again i may ride the X and say HECK YEAH! so we shall see..

Thanks to the aftermarket, if you did get an R there are plenty of ways to make it "your" bike.
Best of luck with the selling of the X1.
Is there no way to keep it?
I'd have a hard time buying another bike unless it was going to be a second bike.

Why not make a Uly with an "R" front end??

From what you want to do with the bike I would look into the Uly (XB12X)....

I need to sell the X1 cause that lowers the cost of the new bike.. and right now space is limited, and the wife said if i got another bike it would have to be either a replacement or a "comfy" bike that she could ride on also... which would be the Uly, but the R is so nice.. lol

I'll chime in, but I'm a little biased.
Any of the 3 would be reliable and easy to maintain. I've not ridden an R or the Ss but do have an XB12X that does a 100 mile commute
(round trip and mostly interstate) with ease, has way more capability in the twisties than I have explored
(yea ~1/4" chicken strips on rear tire still), and I think now that I have the Buell hard side cases on, she'll make a great touring machine!
The aftermarket will catch up and other hard cases will be showing up at some point.

But if possible ride all three the same day and decide what's best for you.
Cheers

Blackbelt I'd say the 12SS.Very comfortable seat and the bags and stuff aren't gonna be all that bad on the pocket book.I'm your height and I liked it.

Blackbelt,
There is no choice for you, just listening to your posts. You have the "R" burned into your brain and you will never be happy until you have had one.
I struggled the same way and up to the last day was going to get the XB9S (already have fixed-up M2)but yerned for the "R".I bought the "R" and wouldn't trade for anything. Also owning a 9 and a 12 at the sametime, I think the 9 is a better motor (not more HP,but better suitted for a sporbike)IMHO..........Charlie

The R makes a pretty nice touring machine as far as I am concerned, you do a lot of miles in the year....how much of that will be on the gravel/logging roads?
