Hello everyone, I know this has been discussed but I cant find the thread. After I start my '05 12R, for the first 10 miles or so, I have to be REAL careful or she will backfire with the slightest acceleration from stop. She has always none it and now with 10K miles on it I've had this happen in the freezing cold thru the blazing heat. I use 91 octane (its the best I can get here) and have tried boosters this summer to get rid of spark knock in 120 degree heat, still there. HELP!

I am not a mech, but I would lean to intake manifold gaskets.

Maybe a mechanic can help out a little more

I had this problem back in spring, back fire when cold and spark knock under acceleration.
Dealer found it was not keeping fuel pressure. Some time after 04 buell updated the fuel pump. It came in kit form with fuel lines and etc. They installed the kit reset the fuel values and tps and timing. It finally fixed the problem. It took them 30 days to get to the root of the problem after checking and trying just about everything. The factory quit returning the dealers phone calls. I won't go in to how pissed we were. My dealer is top notched and really took care of everything. On another problem my bike started to hesitate between 3 and 3500 rpm's. After a few days the dealer called and said the factory had some problems with some bad throttle bodies when my bike was made. One of inlets was machined out of round and was causing air leaks when it heated up.
Do yourself a favor and take your bike to shop as soon as you can so you can enjoy your self. Between all of the problems and waiting for parts my bike has been in the shop for over 40 days this year.
Good luck
