Had a great riding weekend here in the DC area. I'm still within the 500 mile break-in so I've been taking it easy. What I did notice is when I let off the throttle, it takes a few seconds for the engine to get back to idle. Is that normal or does something need to be reprogrammed. I have the race kit and the ECM installed at the dealership. | ||

Pop, It means that your idle is adjusted slightly too high, this is identified in the shop manual. XB's are sensitive to idle speed and it may take a few tries to get it set correctly. 25-50 rpm increments can make a difference. | ||

Please also check that your throttle cable isn't adjusted too tightly. The dealer couldn't zero out the TPS for me when they tried to reset it due to the throttle cable pulling the throttle slightly open even in the shut position. | ||

OK, I apologize in advance for hijacking this thread. I've had the same problem when my idle is set within the 1050-1100 range since I bought the bike. If I set it to around 1000, it drops back to idle perfectly. I've reset the TPS several times, using the technoresearch software but always have the same result. My cables are not bound anywhere, the throttle is adjusted properly, and moving the handlebars to either extreme doesn't affect the idle. My questions are: 1) Would my altitude (Greeley, CO ~5000' above sea lvl) have anything to do with the idle problem? 2) When setting the idle using the technoresearch software, the idle is always "bouncing" around a little, it is never a "solid" number. Is this normal? This is the one issue I've never been able to resolve properly on the bike, and existed with my stock ecm, as well as the newly installed race ecm. Race ECM and TFI don't mix. I know I've been there, trust me. If you have the Buell Race Kit, dump the TFI, set your idle where it's happy and ride. | ||

I don't have the TFI, just the technoresearch software (for resetting TPS, etc.), but from your response, I'm gathering that idle at ~1000 is going to be ok? What about the "bouncy" idle? should it be a steady number, or should it bounce around within a small range? | ||

Hey Pop, I'm from DC area also. My 2003 XB9R idle does the same thing in cold weather. In warm weather it behaves normally. Not sure why it behaves this way. |
