It is also a dry sump motor, so looks like the swingarm is the oil tank.

Don't forget about the Kaw Ninja 650R It basically looks the same as that KTM. I think the 650R came first. I really like the look of the new ninja, with the powdercoated maroon frame showing around the bodywork, semi-naked. The engine is a parallel twin like the baby ninja 250 and 500's.

Its no Buell though...

The RC8 is a proto type.
They may come out in 2007.
But they've been saying next year for a few years now.

And a 'fly by wire' throttle. Why on earth would somebody need that on a road bike? Just more technology that is likely to go wrong and land you in serious trouble!

When is the motorcycling world going to wake up to the fact that Sports bikes are getting more & more pointless for the average guy and just lend ammunition to the anti biking gang!

When is the motorcycling world going to wake up...
Likely after squids quit feeling the need to buy the latest and greatest.
I heard some guys talking at bike night this week about all the new do-dads they've added to their bikes.
It was funny because one of them said he couldn't tell the difference, but it was giving him bragging rights, and it looked cool.
Don't know what exactly they were talking about, but it didn't matter, you could tell by the wear pattern on their tires, they've not been much further the the interstate or bike night...

Sorry Trojan but that's the bull shite that some politicians and anti-biking lobbies would have you believe.

Statistics don't show that high tech high speed superbikes cause accidents, injury or death in many cases. 99.9% of us make it home safe and well. Stat's show Bikers are just as likely involved in accidents, injured or killed in low speed accidents and through lack of experience, as in for example 'born again bikers', just as much if not more so than other groups. Built up areas are more hazardous than the open road - not the playground of the superbikes then. The bigger picture in a relative comparison would show that superbike riders are mature, experienced riders who have children at home and act responsibly to get home. You read MCN. They published a questionnaire this year with those same results.

Harley and Buell riders are just as vulnerable and likely to be involved in a bike accident as are the guys on sportsbikes. Statistics won't show this as such without reading deeper into the stats because there are more sports bikes out there than Buells or Harleys.

My advice to you is don't fuel the fire by seeming to agree with those that would seek to restrict us just because a fly by wire R6 isn't your cup of tea. Especially in these times when the British government is seeking to ban anyone from riding a bike larger than 600cc until they reach the age of 27. That could be a potential disaster for anyone in the motorcycle industry.

I totally agree with what you are saying Rocket. The problem is that the anti-bikers only see the top speed headline when it comes to new bikes, so the industry actually adds fuel to the fire that will burn itself to death!

Yes that is too true Trojan. I wasn't having a pop at you. Well maybe a little one, but what is the answer seeing as you raise such a damn good point?

Do we not have fly by wire 600's? Restrict HP and top speed?

We need to educate the anti-biking and we can only do that in numbers. That requires politicians and industry pulling from the same point. Bickering over power and capacity has little to do with anything. Smaller less powerful bikes will not save lives. Educating anti-bikers and car drivers will, as will making the roads of the UK more biker friendly.

the underslung exhaust was around many years before buell used it as with perimeter brakes.

The R6 has that exhaust to copy the look of the motogp bikes not the buell.

Blake, I would like to think Trojan knows of where I was coming from. He reads MCN, as I do. Despite all the political some crap some not so crap stuff they've reported on in the last 30 years or so to my knowledge, we in Britain are on the brink of a crisis regarding new Euro laws that are due to be implemented.

I apologize to Trojan and your good self if my posts above seem offensive. That wasn't my intention, rather to highlight the troubled roads ahead if the anti-biking Eurocrat's have their day.

Rocket, remember though that here in the US things are different. Over half of the large bikes on the road are Harleys, and cruisers in general sell better than sport bikes. This would skew the figures the other way here.

don't forget too that the new gsxr600 & 750 are even stubbier cans than the r6 ..

how long till kaw take their zx-rr open pipe under the engine into their street realm ..

having said that .. the latest cycle world mag features an ad for an underseat can & accessories for the zx-10r ..

its logical to go under engine for all bikes .. u can muffle the pipes anywhere .. its just old stylee to have the muffler/can mounter high & in yer face like the old race bikes.

when motogp goes to 800cc, you can bet all bikes will feature new soultions for a few years.

The ideas for both were. But ERIK BUELL holds the patents.

There is a chasm between "thinking of it" and being smart enough to use it to improve a system.

Buell has moved the concepts from concept to commodity.

I have an idea for a flying car. I suppose someday, I'll be able to claim "well, Aeromoto didn't invent the idea}.

Erik Buell is a gifted designer AND engineer.

Regardless of who invented what first, Buell is the first I've heard emphasize "mass centralization" as a cornerstone of design. Increasingly, I'm noticing this phrase copied by other manufacturers.

In regards to posts made concerning new European rules governing motorcycles, I'd just like to say I think the bird flu has made an early arrival across the pond. Will this mindless urge to control everything and everyone by a few cease before there is no joy left in life and no freedom left to cherish. Europe, in general, appears hell bent on self-destruction, as evidenced by the recent riots in France. For all the world bitching about the United States there is plenty to worry about "over there" besides how many cc's a bike has.

Rocket - I agree with the fact that there is no reason for there to be a limit to the displacement size of a motorcycle, that is nuts. And people do need to be re-educated to motorcycles and what they are capable of doing. Like my father use to tell me about using a calculator for my homework "it is only as smart as the person pushing the buttons". this is applicable to motorcycles, they only go as fast as the person twisting the wick. re-eduacate the public, re-educate newbie riders but don't tell me what size bike I can or can't buy.

We need to pay MORE attention to who we vote for or we'll all end up riding "enviro friendly" 125cc mopeds, defending our homes and property with "approved" fly swatters and fishing & hunting only via computer sims - all in the name of a "better world".

Too late for the UK - it's already here. Lights to tell you to go, lights to tell you to stop, lights to turn left/right, cameras, traffic calming, cones, restrictions etc.

Just have to live with it 'cause it ain't gonna change. Fortunately 100 miles on the Firebolt makes it all go away.

Im may going to test a new R6 out west next month. Ill let you know about the powerband. I have to kinda agree as the technology is getting a bit too much, theres something beautiful about the "simplicity" of a motorcycle that seems to be getting lost. All the dials, knobs, adjustments, programming, etc. is definetly overwhelming for the average enthusiast. Quite honestly 2 clicks of adjustment and a revised fuel map is not going to make ANYBODY ride like Valentino Rossi.....
