My Brother has a very nice 97 Road King that he just had a S&S Twin Cam 124 put in it.Now he thinks he's King $hit. He is telling me that his bike would kick my bikes arse.Hes saying once we get about 80 mph hes gonna start walking away. What Kinda top end could his bike possibly have??I've never seen this motor anywhere till now. Hes saying 130 hp?? Can't find any Specs for it.What does the BadWeb think??

I would like to see a Twin Cam in an EVO, cuz I dont think that would work, nothing is the same from motor mounts to the primary to the tranny

The S&S 124 as Dana pointed out is available for both EVO and TC chassis. Its an engine that was made with the intent of making a 'Spec Motor' race class for the AHDRA events. Using the S&S 124VFI several builders were invited to build customs to be run on the strip for bragging rights, all using the 124ci engine with S&S's proprietary VFI injection system. Builders included Nazi, Kendall,Eller and 7 others.

thats a lot of power! but what dose the hp to weight work out to be? road kings are a lot heavier. if your brother is heavier than you that would soak up some HP to. just like how a V-rod has 120 or so hp but is not much or at all faster than the XB

Hes saying once we get about 80 mph hes gonna start walking away

I have a friend with a 116 CI Twin Cam that he has invested loads of money...could buy my Buell several times over. He just wants to try to run faster than me, no matter how much it costs. Anyway, he has the low end torque, and always gets the jump on my XB9S (also charges out when I am not expecting him...but he never tries to catch me when I get on it first), but I catch him and finally leave him in my rear view mirror. Remember, ours will top end at 130 something. Unless the big twin has an overdrive, you are going to catch him and pass him. I have never run a big inch twin-cam with overdrive, so I don't know what the top would be on something like that.

As above...run the sucker! The guys with the big twins always think they are keeping up with the Buell, and then I get on it and smoke 'em!

If he has a windshield on the Road Kink, that will hurt him abovfe 80 mph. The weight of the bike will hurt him below that. I'd say challenge him in a second gear roll on from 30 mph and hug the tank and go. Get that speed shifting down too. : D Fun stuff.

Take him out to the country on a nice curvy road. After the first set of turns he'll see how fast(Slow) his bike really is.

You don't need a twisty road, gear ratios and "garage door" aerodynamics will be in your favor. Some people just don't get it.

Whats the redline on the S&S motor.. if its way low then thats in your favor for top end speed.

That S&S from 80- to around 100 will probably be ahead. But once the speed gets higher it will take much more power to push that big beast through the air. Air drag increase by squares as speed doubles. If he takes his windshield off then you'll loose....

Funny ,
I just ran a guy who had a FXSTC who said he was push'n serious hp's because he had a "worked" S&S with BLA BLA BLA in it...

I have a 12R race kit , Straight road from a stop ... we ran .... He had nothing for the Buell except talk .
His Softail was fast for what it was , but weight is a factor, I smoked him .... and I actually blew 2-3 shift and still watched him in my mirror ..

My old man has a road king with a 120 Merch engine. I've rode it, and it's scary fast (scary because of the lack of handling and lack of decent brakes)!

I haven't ran him yet but I think a drag race would be close (on my xb9r). I'll let you guys know when we do have a run.

What is your bro smokin’? His Trailer King (oops, Road King) tips the scales at about 750lbs., your 12S comes in at about 400lbs. That means that even if his bike is truly putting 130hp to the ground and your bike only puts 83hp down, your power to weight ratio is about 1 pound per pony LESS. All other things being equal, you would cook his turkey.

Hopefully my tone on the subject doesn’t make me sound like a Harley basher, I’m not. I have owned many over the years and still have my CVO E-Glide and I love them for what they are, cruisers with attitude. Performance bikes they are not.

Find a nice empty road where you won’t be likely to go to jail (or worse) and show him your tail light.

Rage, if you look at the Cycle-Rama website, you will see an EVO with a Twin Cam engine in it. It's Wes' old '93 FXRP.

Glitch I don'y know when or if we'll race but when it does happen it'll be when we are out together riding and that rare. Redrocker 83hp???A 12 does better then that.Low 90's high 80's is accurate.

I was trying to be conservative on the numbers, but your absolutely right based on the dyno numbers that I have seen.

So if he is faster be sure to let him know what it took for his to be faster $$$$$ for all that work just to be a bit faster than a stock motored bike (i know D&D...etc., but the motor is stock).

And just for fun find someone with a liter bike to come along and see if your Bro will spout off about his fast bike to him. That should put him in his place. haha.

I'd say the first 100 feet will be his because these short wheelbase machines are difficult to launch. (hard) Second gear come up fast so be ready to shift quickly. Don't just beat him by a little bit either...POUND THE SNOT OUT OF HIM. NO MERCY.

'97 Road King = 700 lbs/130 hp crank = 5.38 lbs/hp
'05 XB12 = 425 lbs/103 hp crank = 4.13 lbs/hp
Therefore the XB12 wins!
