What?? You have got to be kidding. The mutant pictured sold for $12500. That is nothing compared to what big twin customs go for. That is why they are so popular. Plus, builders use Buells because they realize the motors are more powerful than Sportster engines and they also like the other "high tech" Buell features such as brakes, USD forks,wheels, etc. (of course just for their looks)

I like them and having actually ridden one (anyone else??) I find they are a hoot.

I like em too, different and still using all the parts I like. I agree that some are cookie-cutter customs but the choppers that sits next to my buell arn't

I'm with Koote and Maniac. As long as I can go out and buy a new or used Buell I'm happy. After looking into all the other V-twins I can't help coming back to the point where a Buell is the only bike for me. Function is the operative word. The sporting riding position is more comfortable than the spine-compressing feet-forward cruiser. If you gave me enough money to buy a Ducati 999r, I would spend it ALL on Buells. Gotta love'm... Butch

Oh, I'd save enough for the 12xr model. You know the one thats coming out with the passenger ergos of the 12X the style of the 12Ss and a Firebolt fairing.

Dag- I get that alot, but its not hubless, its just super flat and the chrome is really good so it gives the illusion of a hubless

Cyclone, after storing that Chop as a rolling chassis with the motor etc parted and placed in a bin under my workshop bench for about 15 years I decided to sell it only a couple of years ago.

It was a de-lugged raked sprung hub 5TA frame from 1959. The motor was pre-unit T110 and I'd hopped it up to Bonnie spec with 1 piece crank, 9 stud head. Morgo 750 high comp and god knows what else. Over a period of time it swallowed much money in the days when I didn't have any.

As a wiser man in my middle years I decided it would be a fortune to restore and in any case it was a flawed build from the get go. It regularly broke the gearbox casing because of the flex in the rigid frame. I discovered at least three gearbox cases in the bin when I dug it all out to sell. I must have rebuilt the gearbox at least 6 times all those years ago. The rake wasn't right also. I'd modified the headstock to take Norton yokes which meant the taper rollers I used had to be machined to fit, and they wore often. It wore the fork seals out often too. Anyway, in my days of yoof it were a lot of fun but not for an older dude I fear LOL. I say with pride though, despite its Titanic length and weight it ran 12.75 in the 1/4 and there was nothing could touch it in an 1/8th. Not even a GPZ1100B2.

The rolling chassis now resides peacefully in some Chopper freaks garden as an ornament whilst he parted out the good bits to keep other rides alive.

To each their own, I like the custom bikes that are being made out of Buells, They are inexpensive and look great, plus you get great engineering in the parts you reuse.

If you look hard enough you can build one for under 10K easily, you won't have the fancy paint job but to some that doesn't matter.

I don't see why so many people complain about this, if the used Buell market drys up then more people will buy new or something else. This helps Buell more then it hurts it, which in turn someday may increase the value of your Buell when you are ready to part with it.

I get a kick out of the people that say this isn't a chopper board, no it is a Buell board and a lot of custom choppers are being created out of used Buells that quite a few of us like, so why not post it up, if you don't like it move on to the next thread and quit crying over someones bike that you couldn't buy.

Oh well Rocket, sometimes the memories are better left being just that. That was a cool Trumpet though.

Now, for all others that seem to read into posts something that is not there, please note. At no point did I mention that I don't like choppers. My assertion was that I think it's a waste of a great bike to break down a ridable Buell to turn into a chopper! By the way, Tq_freak, like the Blue bike especially the taillight! The bars look good but must be a nightmare to ride.

As for people "crying". Don't think that ever took place here. Just stating our opinions! God knows it would be a boring world if we all like the same thing. However, disagreeing isn't a license for launching into childish attacks. If you can't make your case with at least a modicum of intellect, perhaps you should refrain from posting.

I agree. Yeah, I can appreciate the chopper "look," but the reason I got a Buell had everything to do with the chassis, and very little to do with the engine. It just seems to me that when a guy disassembles a Buell to put the engine into a rigid frame chopper (or bobber or whatever,) he's using the least desireable part of the Buell, and throwing away the best part. Kinda like taking the engine out of a Duc 900SS and throwing away the trellis frame...

That's just my opinion, BTW, and I'm sticking with it. I did like the look of that "66" bobber posted above, though!

theres nothing wrong with building a custom bike using buell parts.....2999.00 for a kit from redneck engineering....add front end, engine .wheels, wiring etc and go...Plus its something different..Theres a lot of us who don't have 30,000.00 laying around to walk into a dealer and buy a custom bike...i'm looking for used buell parts to build my own bike.......i'm recycling buell parts to build a new bike...parts are easy to find and usually a decent price

Makes sence in one respect, but seems wrong in another

S1 and S1W Lightnings will generally come next in line, with S1W?s commanding higher prices, based on their fledgling collector status. From there it runs to the 1999-2002 X1 Lightning and S3 Thunderbolt models. These bikes were Buell?s most expensive production models, and the used resale market reflects it. With enough patience and a little hunting around pretty much any Buell model can be had at a fire sale price, just pick the model that best fits your wants and needs and go from there. Some great places to search for used Buells include the bikes for sale classifieds at www.badweatherbikers.com as well old standbys www.ebaymotors.com and www.cycletrader.com.
