So I have a 2003 9s with 1k miles on it and its now winter and I got to thinking... I think I might what a 9R or more likely the 12R. What do you guys think it would cost me after trade in for the 9r or 12r? Anyone got either of these they are wanting to get rid of or trade? What do you guys think of the 12's in general?

Have you ridden a 12r. first of all see if you would like the lower riding position vs the s...then the POWER....lots of it but at lower RPM's. I test rode a 9s but decided on the 12s without riding one and am glad I did. Love the power of the 12!

the lower riding position isnt a big deal to me, I just think i like the style a bit better.. thats why i would settle for a 9r, but i woudl enjoy the 12

If you think you just want an R you can convert your S. If you think you want the 12 you will have to drop some change to trade. Since your 9 only has 1k on it you should be able to get good money for it, but you might wait till next spring to sell it. Have you done any mods to your 9 yet? Consider doing some mods to your current bike before trading it off. When I started opening my 12R up it bacame a completely different animal than it was stock. The 12 does have more power, but the 9 has a higher redline and it will still get down to business. Search the knowledge vault for S to R conversions, exhaust threads, and modifications. There is a wealth of information there.

That will get you started. Go into the Knowledge Vault, and use the search function. Type S to R Conversion and look for that in the subject line. Then look in the XB board. It will come up with tons of results. If you don't see enough add to the number of days it looks back.

It would if you go buy the parts from the dealership. If you find someone to trade with you it will cost your time and the shipping to ship stuff back and forth.

Thanks 892, I'm glad you like me. As for finding your trade, I can lead you to the bathroom, but you're going to have to pull it out and shake it when you're done. Sorry buddy.

You'll probably not be happy with your trade value, or how much you can get for your 9 vs. how much you paid.
Take that money you'd lose and put it in one of these kits.
With the 9's higher revs, you'd be rippin' it up!

Which kit are you talking about?
The one you can afford.
If not all at once, start with getting your heads done.
I can't say how much labor it would cost you.
We (the 3%ers) help each other out with working on bikes.
Labor is usually paid in a party after "Mod Day in the Buell Barn".
Read up in the KV, I've learned much there, you will too.
These bikes are so simple to work on.

The full name is the 3% BRAGging Rights Club.
It's our local BRAG group.
We're really lucky to have as many members as we have, and even more fortunate that the members support each other the way they do.
I looked at your profile, but you've left most of it blank, where are you?
