WooooHoooo, Just made a deal on a 2005 CityX with 2000miles and 4 year extended warranty.
I know, I know do a search. I tried but a could not find a straight answer. So here goes and please be kind on the flames......
What exhaust can I install without having to do any other mods. I kinda used on my money on the bike and would like a little more sound without the sound of my wallet inverting on itself.
Any suggestions ( other than wait, save, and buy the whole package together) ?
Thanks

Oh man you don't know the can of worms you've just opened.

There are many different mufflers you can install, most of them you could most likely install with no other mods and the bike will perform fine. Drummer, D&D, Jardine, Latus, Buell Race can, and a but-load of others.

drummer, jardine, D&D and the buell race are all slip ons and the ecm can handle any of them pretty well. which one you pick is a roaring debate, but it comes down to how YOU ride and what YOU like the sound of most. Remember you can't ride a spec sheet.

I would get either the drummer or Odie's special ops pipe. Both offer good bang for the buck.

I had one and went back to stock, the pipe sits in the garage now. To much noise, and I did not really need the extra power, and I lost about 5mpg (race ECM).

If you open up the inner airbox, you get a nice honk and snort of intake noise. That's a more or less free mod.

NOT trying to open a can of worms, Just sold a 2002 roadking so I am already light years ahead in performance...and there is this Harly M & M ( myth and misinformation ) about how much damage can be done to an engine if you don't reflash, stage 1 etc. etc.
So basically what the collective is saying is that I can install one of the many cans available WITH_OUT causing any kind of major damage to the engine valves/insides....right?

REEPICHEEP----what pipe do you have sitting in the garage and what would it cost to get rid of the piece of junk for you....lol

Thanks for all the replies....now, to find the right slip-on. Looks like I went from a chromeaholic to a buellaholic, jeez more meetings " Hello, my name is Pablo and I have an accessories buying problem " You know it's bad when your psych. tells you " Now show me on this toy bike where you would like to add something on "

Below 3000 rpm this is a closed loop system, the bike measures the exhaust gasses and adjusts the fuel delivery appropriately. Any reasonable exhaust should be fine.

Above 3000 RPM, the bike goes back to predefined maps. An aftermarket can on the stock ECM will be lean, but probably not dangerously so. The race ECM runs more fuel at high RPM's, and so will help this (though that ECM is calibrated for the Buell race exhaust, so it won't be perfect).

Um Reepicheep I think you have that backwords the system dosen't use a heated o2 sensor so closed loop cant be attained until the sensor heats up so at idle it's at the fixed map and after 3000 it switches to closed loop like many of the old auto fuel injection set-ups

If all you're looking for is some improved sound and a cheap price you can cut the back off of the stocker and mod it yourself. I think it cost some of the guys I know about $20. Then you can save for exactly what you want.

Yeah. My friend did his own XB12 and another friend's stock X1 pipe with good results.

The XB brains are smarter than the older units an can adapt pretty well.

I know it's a lot of bucks but the Buell race kit seems to be a good deal since it comes with intake, exhaust and ECU.

Olinxb12, I can cut and I can weld. What all is involved in the "MOD" ? I may tackle this as a temporary fix until I can afford what I want.

Thanks,

cut the back of the can off, cut the "U" pipe inside off, weld end of can back on. pretty simple. You won't see an increase in power, but it will be louder.

Best Bang for the buck is the Race Kit

It gives the bike a noticeably boost at 4k rpms
smooths out a drop in power at lower rpms
Includes a new AirFilter and Race ECM
and is just loud enough to sound nice and agressive
but not so loud that you need earplugs for trips under 30 minutes.
