I beleive they are H7 bulbs -- should be able to find a bunch of differnt types easily, specially in the local Honda Civic with a Sewer Pipe Exhaust store --

conversely, entering h7 bulbs in google got me 146,000 results (off da!) -- couple of em should be of help, I would imagine ;-}

Kybueller... using the silverstar h3's... I picked them up at autozone or oreillys... They are great... I live in the mountains and I can acutally see with my tented shield now...: )
I would suggest them for cost... 10-15 bucks a piece I think...

Check out American Sport Bike - they sell aftermarket lights that have the stock draw but are definitely brighter and whiter.

Good eye Buelltroll
H7 lamps are for the XBS
H3 for the XBR
That's right...dont listen to me...LOL
I also have the H3 silverstars on my KTM and they seem brighter than the H7 I installed on the XB9S.
At any rate they are better than stock.

There are several kits available for about $300 that include two bulbs and ballasts. These would allow you to have an HID high beam.

I use the PIAA crystal ion bulbs and they work awesome...they're pretty expensive though and they're supposed to be illegal for sale in the US. I've never had a problem...going on 3 yrs now.

XBR uses Silverstar H3 from Kragen (in-stock). Cheap and quite a bit brighter than stock. Use two-one for high and one for low. And while you are at it take out the little deflector on the low beam....

Do you have to remove the entire front fairing to replace the bulbs?

No. Rubber boot behind the lights pull back, giving you access to the bulb.
