I know they are designed to come on with .7 gal. of fuel. Mine comes on after it uses 2.5 gal of fuel. Is this the norm?

It depends on the temperature of the fuel...

That's exactly when mine comes on. I can't get a drop past 2.5 after the light comes on.

Right at 2.5 for me as well

That is when filling it to the inner ring (not over-filling it0

Me too....usually put in between 2.5 and 2.8 gallons depending upon how long I let the light stay on...that is to the lower inner ring.

I get to 2.8, right around 130 miles, but what I'm more interested in, is how far once the fuel light and trip come on. I've gone to 30 miles, but was pretty nervous after 20.

my light seems to come on after about 2.6 gallons. the most fuel i have been able to put in the tank is 3 gallons, at 156 miles. bike is supposed to hold 3.7, but i have never heard of anyone using more than 3.4 gallons. would like to pack a spare gallon some day, and see just how far i can go on a full tank.

yes i was wondering about that too, i was afraid i wasn't filling it enough, i think one time mine held a whole 2.6 gallons a little while after the light came on, but I have never gone more than 7 mile past the light. I used to run out of gas in the Blast all the time. I hate that.

Funny you post this. I have had my XB9SX since July05 and have also never been able to fill up beyond 2.5gal after the light comes on. My local dealer ordered a new sensor and will be installing it next week to test it out. They told me it's warranty work. I'll post up what they find out and if it takes longer before the warning light comes on.

05 City Cross. Once the light comes on you have about 40 miles +/- before you're drifting to the shoulder. This is bone stock, no mods. Don't ask me how I know.

You couldn't find a gas station in 40 miles?

My light comes on about 135, I have figured I have about 40-45 miles. Thanks for doing the leg work for me

135!?!? Nice. I'm lucky if I get 85 before the light comes on with my 05XB12s. Any other 12'ers getting the same?

I get 200km on my 12, which works out to about 120 miles I think.

Lucky to get 85? Any engine mods?

Worse I have seen on mine is about 125, and that with me flogging it. I routinely get 48-52 mpg. Filled up yesterday. Had 112 miles on the odometer. The light was not on yet. It took 2.143 gallons or 52.33 mpg

Mine is a XB9R, stock engine with 10,000 miles. Purchased it used with 1,800 in Feb 05. MPG has gotten better with time and miles

Could yours be running a bit rich?

Mine seems to come on early too. Any fixes? I was going to see about pulling the fuel pump and sensor out but I haven't had time as it seems like a big job. something simpler would be good though if anyone knows what is going on etc.

I will check into the suggestion about it running rich. I do tend to ride like there's no tomorrow - love hole shots, can't get enough of the throttle, especially the 80 to 100mph pushes. Also when filling up and the pump autostops I stop filling at that point...could I push a bit more gas in it? Avg fill is about 2.1'sh gallons after light comes on

If I'm not mistaken you can adjust the level that the light comes on at if you pull out the fuel pump. The level sensor is part of the pump unit. IIRC

My manual says to fill it up to the where the neck begins. I fill mine to just a tad above the neck. Be careful if it is too much over it will just puck it out.

When I do fill it just above the neck and let it sit a second it falls back below it.

Also, it might be nothing more than a tune up. E.G. - Dirty Air filter will hurt gas mileage. Or as already mentioned, it might be set up to rich.

Another thing that might help my mileage is the way I ride. I love carrying corner speed. See no need to flog it in the straights to just park it in the corner. I actually find myself cruising between corners and speeding up in them.

This bike is so neat in the corners.

With some of the people I ride with I am leaving them in the corners and cruising while they catch back up to leave them in the next set. My overall speed stays pretty steady and smooth
