the Jardine isn't just a 'reworked jap pipe', thats what Darktwin is pointing out... It's just a universal can thrown on another bike. And I paid good money for my Ti... ~$400! ... on my last bike. Money well spent 'cause i dug it.

what a ridiculous idea to purchase a few 'stock modded' pipes, cut 'em up to expose what the makers have spent good, quality time AND money creating. why so hell-bent?

you know how much dyno time is, right? you know what labor costs are, right? you know what material costs are, right? you know what 'demand' means, right? ... $250 - 400 smackers ain't that much, man. chill out. or better yet, just go start from scratch on your own 'stock modded' pipe and see how far you get... not far, huh? thats what i figured. its too much WORK!

i for one am super excited to be part of a growing community of bikers that have ADDITIONAL support from a portion of that community that have the skills to create this stuff for us to buy and check out on our own. why on earth would you want to squelch that creativity?

i guess i just appreciate the work others have done and leave it up to myself to decide what i like and don't like. i don't need to go out and prove how much something is 'worth' to the next guy. everyone has an opinion, thats cool, just don't pretend you know whats up until you've done your little chop-shop experiment. and when and if you do, thats pretty sad. Neither Kevin or Odie are out to make mad cash, they're creating products for bikes they love for a community of bikers they respect. don't sh*t on that. sure, you're entitled to spend cash where you think its best spent but think before you mouth off.

different cans are a dime a dozen on Jap bikes, costing around $400 a pop yet no one goes around cutting them up to expose the straight core... show me a slip-on for your R1 that knocked your socks off. bet ya cant. but for some reason its definitely worth 400 clams.

At least when you buy a $400 muffler for an R1 you get an actual piece of equipment. That you can look at and assess to see if its value for money.
When you by a drummer what do you get? You dont even know what they have done, for all you know the may have changed the outlet and drilled a hole. Is that worth $400? Would you not like to know what has taken place to justify your $400?

Or are you happy with blindly handing money to people without any justification of whats involved? If so the drummer may as well cost $1000 because you dont care.

I'm so tired of the damn debates on who's soooo much better than who. Buy what you want, or better yet buy what you can afford. At the time I bought my Jardine I also needed a rear tire. Problem solved. For the price of a Drummer or D&D I got a quality slip on and a new Diablo. The difference in performance to this non-pro-street rider is negligible. If I have a "hole" in the low rpm range I can't feel it 'cuz I don't hang around there. Again, get what YOU want and quit bitchin about everyone else...SHEESH!

Crystal200-

Please tell us about the modified stock muffler you have listed in your profile. Did you do it yourself? What are the modification details? What kind of performance or sound improvements did you get out of it?

The next time I see Erik, I'm going to ask him for the detail drawings of my new Ss. That way I can price out the parts and labor and see if the overall price is justified. Or maybe I can just make some of the parts myself for less money to lower the cost.

You guys are all nuts. What a joke of a thread.

I have the stock muffler, period. I have never tried or heard any of the pipes, and I have no bias here -

The value of the can is not determined by the sum of parts or how long it took to build. It is determined by the results it gives me and whether I can get those results cheaper elsewhere. If Kevin or anybody else can take a hammer, whack my pipe once and make a dent that delivers better sound and performance, great. If it is worth $400 to me, then I'll pay to have my pipe whacked with the hammer!

But I don't know how to hit my pipe with a hammer, cut this, drill that, or whatever anyone does to improve sound and performance. So if someone else does, and I want the results, I'm happy to pay for the benefits.

I'm sure he spent a lot of time figuring out how to get the results he does, and he deserves to make some money for his time/effort/risk. That's called capitalism and the American way.

The race ECM costs $200 - because it delivers results (supposedly). How much do you think the chip and plastic casing costs? Something less than $10 I assure you.

What's with the flame wars and endless exhaust threads guys? Check the dynos, check the pricetag, listen to the sound, look at a picture, and then make your pick. Don't bash someone else for having a different set of values or criteria for choosing whatever exhaust. Some like loud, I don't. Some like shiny, I do. Some like power, me too! So what?

The benefit of such threads is NIL because the few bits of useful info (pictures, dynos, etc.) is drowned in a sea of "does not!" "does too!" kind of argument that NOBODY wants to wade through, much less swim in.
