2nd, 2nd, 2nd

Always the bridesmaid, never the bride

Gingerman was cold on Saturday not to mention I worked until 5 o’clock on Friday and drove all night only to get to the gates at 5:00 am. 2 hours of truck sleeping did not help in anyway before a full day of practice. I had been to the track once before this time last year on a stock sv650. The Buell is so much different it did not help much. Practice was super cold with temperatures in the low 40s. Practice went well and I came up to speed by my third practice. I wrapped up the GTL great plain regional championship over the weekend, which I guess is a good thing.

GTL (2nd Place)

I got a great start but just could not keep up with the guy in front of me. It seems I am too timid when it comes to passing. The experts that start well before us don’t like it much. They seem to block a bit on the heavy side. I was on the same tires from autobahn and by the end of the race I was spinning up the rear in almost every corner. I just had to adjust my lines a bit. When I got back to the pits we saw that I had shredded the tire down in the carcass. Tommy the Michelin rep was in awe.

Light weight superbike (2nd Place)

We did not take off in the second wave as usual. We were back from the experts a ways but got to start on the same flag. The new rear tire stuck well but I was bit scared about the front as we chose not to replace it due to financial restraints with Daytona coming up next week. I finished 2nd in the race and 5th overall if I had expert plates. It was down to the line but I almost would have had 4th. I did run off the track at one point but quickly got my game back on. There was a guy behind me that I did not like so I just had to make it work; I came back on the track out of a big dust cloud coming out of the last corner back on the straight. I think I ended up with third over all in the Great Plain Region in this class

Thunderbike (2nd Place)

More of the same I had serious brake fade. I just unloaded my bike and heard some grinding on the rotors. I might need to take a look at that! I ran somewhat conservative with constant 1:34 lap times. It seemed across the board they were a little off as I ran a 1:35 on my Sv650. Ed Key was running 1:33s and he wins Formula USA Thunderbike races so I was starting to get competitive

I am anxious about Daytona but even more excited about my new motor, ram air, and pipe from Hal’s that I will have to run Formula USA with next year. The bike will need to go on a serious diet as it weighed 440 pounds @ 78hp on there dyno. This is the old school dyno so it reads way low. Hal’s kit should pump it way up.
