I'm with buellboy05, the xbs will do wheelies with some minipulation, or a hard shift into the next gear, but have yet to see a roll on wheelie.

Thats my only gripe with Buells. Power or lack of,
80hp on the XB9 and 91hp on XB12 its just not very fun to ride. Sure it handles good and looks good but even a little Jap 600 will smoke from a starting stop or on any straight away. And the 750`s or 1000`s, these bikes do rollon wheelies at triple digit speeds. It just gets kinda boring on my XB when i ride with my friends who mostly have Jap bikes.

Keep them (your jap bike friends)off the highway!! As long as my friends and I are not on the highway I am Just as fast if not faster then then. However as soon as we reach an on ramp on toast. I ride with a few different of high powered Jap bikes (R1, GXSR1000, R6, ZX1100). It does make you wish for more power when they pull away sooo hard on a straight.

Ya'll are way off on this one!
Buells have plenty of power for roll ons.
I can think of at least 3 times recently when I was not even attempting to wheelie and the front came up.
Just twist the throttle and up she comes.
No clutching, no compressing the suspension just twist and lift.

Some of y'all may have not seen the pics of the guy looping his Firebolt on the dragstrip.
Well an unnamed member of my crew did the exact same thing as we were leaving a stop light a few weeks ago!

Believe me they have plenty of balls.
If you are having trouble keeping up with other bikes from a stop or getting your front end off the ground its time to get introspective and not pass the buck to Erik.
He has enabled us to be hooligans in every sense!

Well at my altitude (around a mile high = 5300 ft) there is no wheelie without clutch, period.

You guys talking about it being a lack of skill - what skill does it take to whack the throttle open? Even open-close-open, will extend the suspension and perhaps get me a half inch off the ground, but no more.

Online sources tell me I am down 23% on power because of altitude - I suspect that's it, because that is a huge difference.

I also ride an 12 Scg, which is lower center of gravity (harder to wheelie) and I only weigh 150ish, which further keeps the center of gravity low (bike weight is higher proportion), so all these things are against the wheelie capability - that's basic physics. If I have a rider on back then I can wheelie much easier obviously, but I don't have many riders willing to do it more than once.

Someday I'll take it to ride at sea level - but in the meantime, there is no such thing as a roll on wheelie, at least where I am.

I don't know about the 12Ss, but I know that any regular XB whether it is a 9 or a 12 will wheely. I could do roll on, throttle whack and clutch on mine bone stock, but now that I've done some mods it is a complete beast. If you let the clutch out and bury the throttle at 2.5K it will pick up the front. I wish I could get on your bikes and show you. That is the thing with wheelies guys, every bike will wheely! The rider is what holds the bike back. I didn't think I could do 2nd gear wheelies when I was first on my XB, but now 2nd is like doing wheelies in first for me. If I can get the bike off the ground in 4th, you guys can do it in first. Why do you want to do roll ons anyway? They are the most uncontrolled wheely you can do! I like to do wheelies on purpose personally. As for the Japanese bikes, you're right, they will pick up the front at 100. I just don't think that anyone that can't do a wheely on an XB has any business doing that anyway. I'm not trying to be a dick, but everytime I hear someone say that their bike won't do a wheely I just have to laugh. Give me a 250 Ninja and I'll wheely the crap out of it. I might have to beat the out of it to do it, but it can be done. Find someone that knows how to wheely a Buell and start practicing with them. That is the only way to learn. Good luck.

I've seen a Buell Blast break off it's rear taillight doing a wheelie. Any bike will do it, some just need more coaxing than others.

I guess I have to put in my two duckets here. I have a 12R with a D&D, race ecm, K&N and desnorkeled. I can flick the throttle anywhere from 2500 rpm's on up and the front will gracefully reach for the sky. Very predictable and controllable with throttle only. No clutching, bouncing or standing at all in first. Just flick the throttle to about 1/2-3/4, don't even need to pin it. I am working on 2nd gear wheelies and can get it up a bit with a little bounce and whacking the throttle hard at around 3.5-4k (sitting). I'm sure if I bounced it a bit and pinned the throttle, I could get a good, rideable wheelie. Just haven't had the cojones to do it yet. Clutch wheelies I never got the hang of......

As a comparison, my old 99 SV 650 would wheelie off the throttle no problem and that bike only made like 68 hp and 47 ft/lbs of torque. Like some have said here, wheelies are capable on most any bike IF you know how to do it.

Sure, any bike will wheelie. I can wheelie my bicycle, and I wheelied my Honda XL70 all the time as a kid with 7 peak horsepower (that's the actual number from the manual ).

But that's different than saying any Buell will power wheelie from just rolling on the throttle, which isn't always the case, and leads some people to wonder if something is wrong with their bike.

Now, I'm off to do some more experiments...

Its true
No Wheelies on a Buell = operator error!!!!

I can wheelie my son's CRF50 Honda " No Clutch" with my feet over the handle bars, you just need to know how to wheelie. I'm going to say exactly what I say when people try to wheelie our Fiddy....... They usually say "I don't know how you wheelie that thing it has no power, no clutch, and is a foot off the ground." I usually reply with," practice, practice practice, and sack up and just do it." Here's proof!!!!
