IIRC the orange is supposed to be a us spec, blue is international. You can find out by checking the 03 xb9r parts book. Mine is on loan right now or I'd check for you. maybe someone has the book on hand?

If memory serves for '03 XB9R's the white bikes could be had with either orange or blue airbox cover decals. I tried finding something to confirm that info recently to no avail, which now has me on an organizational kick to get all my printed Buell material organized. So far I have 34 magazines (US and abroad) with information on S2's. Now I wonder where I should focus my efforts next (pre-S2 or post-S2 tubers or XB's)...

In 2002-2003 the '03 XB9R was available in Battle Blue or White with either blue or orange tank decals. Buell listed three color options. I still think it was really just two.

The first one we got in the dealership was white with blue decals.

Not that it means anything, but, the one in the Feb. 2002 issue of MOTOR CYCLIST "Special First-Ride Issue" the white XB9R in question has blue letters.
This article is the article that made up my mind which bike I was going to buy next.

When I bought my 03 9r in July of 02, I had the choice of white with blue or white with orange. I choose orange. Now my bike is orange and I put blue lettering on it.

The EGG? I ordered mine in Feb 02. Wanted orange letters, got the first bike and it had blue, picked it up in May 02. Sure looks good and can't wait to have a Uly be its garage mate.
