I will be removing wheels and replacing tires soon, is there a specific torque I should tighten the axles to, or just tight?

yes there is.. tighten the axle to 23-27 ft-lbs then back it off 2 full turns and retighten it to 48-52 ft-lbs then tighten the pinch bolt to 40-45 ft-lbs
All of this info can be found in the service manual with is the best thing you can buy for the bike and in the future questions like this should be addressed in the Knowledge Vault section (i am pretty sure you could find the answer in there too)
