The belt on my 04 XB12R snapped Sunday afternoon. I bought the extended warranty when I purchased the bike, and I just want to know if you guys think I can get the 06 belt under warranty? I only got 7000 miles out of my 04 belt. Thanks! |

Do you have any idea what made it snap? Any pre-warning? |

I had noticed that the belt had a spot that had frayed a little on the outside of the belt and that is where it broke. My friends and I were actually joking about it breaking the day before it happenned. They were giving me a hard time about how I was going to be calling for a truck and sure enough the next afternoon I was. I was pretty lucky that it didn't happen earlier in the day when I was riding 3rd gear standups through downtown Kansas City! I'm sure that would have been one hell of a tankslapper. You'll have to get new pulleys for the 06 belt, but otherwise yeah, you can get one for it. I'm thinking about switching to the 06 belt when it's time to replace my belt. |

I would have to change the front and rear? I was under the impression that the 06 was the same except for stronger. I guess that is not the case. Thanks Cataract2. |

Awesome! So does anybody know about the warranty issue? The dealership is saying that they are not sure if they can cover the belt. I say that I was told 25,000 miles and it lasted 7,000, so warranty should replace it. It isn't like it even made it close to the time to replace it. I understand that wear items are hard to warranty, but come on that is just over a 1/4 of how long the belt is supposed to last. I ride hard, but I can't see my riding being that much harder than anyone else talks about on here. Any thoughts? |

The belts are a touchy issue. The recommended interval for replacement is 25,000 miles, but there's nothing saying they HAVE to last that long. It goes along with brake pads - depending on use (or abuse) they should last, but may not and are seldom covered under warranty (unless a defective part that is covered caused the failure). As an FYI - the 06 belt will fit the 04 XB12R without having to change anythign else - I have one on it now. (Message edited by cruisin on September 20, 2005) |

Oops, sorry Olin. I didn't bother to check to see that you had an XB12. For some reason I was under the impression you were on an 03. |

I would think that a broken belt could be a "dealer call", similar to tires, brake pads, fork seals, etc. If the dealer suspects that you're "abusing" the bike, they may not replace it on warranty. Now, everyone has their own idea what constitutes "abuse". Let's hope your dealer doesn't read this forum - 3rd gear wheelies may be considered excessive by more than a few old fogies. Tim |

Hell, Isle of Mann TT riders break CHAINS when they get airborne and then land with the motor cranking the rear wheel faster/slower than the speed the rear wheel wants to turn when it comes down. Tim |

My 04 XB12R belt broke just under 12K and the dealer replaced it as a warranty item - they asked for the old belt though. This was before the XB12X and the new belt was anounced. |

James I think AL should replace your belt, I still think it broke because of the open air box mod you got from him. To much power for the belt. Just Kidding Al. |

If you still have your stock belt guards in place and your bike is less than 24 months old then your belt is absolutely covered under the factory warranty. That comes straight from the factory HD/Buell global warranty manual. I've posted the page numbers where it states this in the current and the old warranty manuals. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/cgibin/discus/show.cgi?tpc=32777&post=370312#POS T370312 |

Thanks Spike! I don't have the stock belt gaurds in place, but I do have the Buell chrome ones on it. Do you think that counts? They are exactly like the OEM ones anyway. |

The new belt is the replacement for the old belt anyway. The old part number is not available any longer. Badweb price on them is 136.80 if they won't cover it. I think they will? |

James- The Buell accessory guards count, you should be covered. |

Thanks Spike! I've got an HD dealership in KC talking with HD about wether to cover the belt or not. They are supposed to get back to me today. They don't have the 06 in stock, but the HD shop in Topeka does have it in stock. I'm contemplating just trying to get the other dealership to do the warranty "work" (as in send me the belt because I'll put it on myself) since they already have a belt. From what Spike posted out of the warranty manual I should be fine. I'll just read it to them word for word and see what they say. Badwebbers rule! |

I ended up going to Topeka HD on Wednesday night. They didn't give me any crap about the warranty at all. The dealership here in KC has now officially lost my business. I would rather pay the shipping or drive the 1 1/14 hours to give my money to the Topeka shop since they took care of me no questions asked. I've got the 06 belt on my bike now and it is a hoss! I couldn't believe that the new belt is almost twice the thickness of my old 04 belt. It is pretty much the difference between the 03 and 04 belts all over again. I put an 03 belt next to the 06 and it looks like it is for a toy or something. |

CRAPOLA! Belt just snapped on my Sporty about 2 blocks from work on my way home. 43,000 miles, no warning at all. Belt looks good except for the big break. Anyway, am I to understand that the new Buell 06 belt will fit an 01 Sportster (128 tooth)? |

yup, it will fit, and if it were ME, I'd be putting the Buell belt on it. Al |

Thanks Al! My Sporty is now sportin' a Buell belt. Local dealer said they had the G0500.1AAE, but they really had a G0500.1AAA. I don't know the difference, but I bought it, put it on, and it's working. |

The G0500.1AAA is an 04 belt, not an 06 belt. I still think it's a better belt than the Gates belt that went on it before, but I guess time will tell. Al |
