How did this oil become a preferred oil over the H-D Synthetic? How much better does it perform? Will it void your warranty should you have engine trouble while using this oil? I saw it at Wal-Mart so I purchased three quarts of the stuff. I saved my receipt and may return them depending on the responses to this post.

No warrenty issues. Mobil 1 exceeds Buell specs. And costs about half as much and is available at lots more locations.

I'm not sure how it became the preferred oil , but don't use it in your trans ... The HD on the other hand works well in the trans .
That's all I use now ...

Mobil 1 15w50 works fine in the tranny, as does the Harley oils. Mobil 1 gear oil works even better.

You can check Amsoil's site for comparisons. I like paying the lower price for the Mobil 1 myself. It's probably the best "off the shelf" oil out there. I'm doing my 5k service tonight and thought I'd try the Mobil 1 75w90 gear oil in the primary. The 15w50 made the bike shift so smoothe compared the HD trans stuff. (I'm trying the 75w90 at some of the BBS members suggestion)As a matter of fact I don't hate the Buell trans anymore.

Noticeable improvement in my 12 with Mobil 1 75w90 gear oil in the tranny. Twice I hated the H-D stuff. Never again.

Motor gets M1 V-Twin or 15w50.

And another vote for Mobil-1 75W-90 synthetic gear oil in the tranny; really REALLY improved the shifting on my '03 XB9R.

I also use Mobil-1 15W-50 synthetic in the engine; as a matter of fact I changed both yesterday.

As I'm certain you know, HD doesn't make their own oil. Plus, you can use others so long as they meet the regs. in the manuel. I myself like Mobil 1 and use it in all my vehicals regardless of millage.

it is oil, it works. change it frequently.
tranny doesnt really care much what brand name is on the bottle. synthetic 20w-50 is specified.
gear lube is also usable, but i have not noted any difference in shift feel between sporttrans, 20w-50 synthetic, 15W-50 synthetic, or 75W-90 synthetic lubricants.

Chalk me up as another satisfied user of the Mobile One Vtwin 20W50 in the engine and Mobile One 75W-90 Gear Oil in the tranny

For what it is worth, we use nothing but Mobil 1 in the engine, tranny, and rear end of our NCCS race car.

80% of the NCCS field does the same.

Just our $.02 cents worth.
