as I was procrastinating from my home work today I think I might have stumbled onto something....the City X, and now the SS have semi transparent body panels, what would it look like if you were to paint the back side of the panels. you could paint the back side just black and you might get a really cool candy color or you could paint a graphic like flames or a "ghost" number on the front wind screen. I dunno its just an idea and I don't have a cityx so i guess i wont be trying it soon but if anyone does please send me some pics

There would be a non-trivial amount of prep work on the inside, but I think it would look incredibly cool. Like a 3/8th inch thick laquer coat.

You get some of the effect if you wash the bike and get condensation in there. It would really look cool.

Somebody did paint a cool checker pattern on the inner airbox that showed through the outer airbox, that looked very cool also.

Odie, I'm in the process of painting my City X frame, subframe, and swingarm black. Your 12S looks killer. Great minds think alike... Can you post more pics please?

Dagwood, that will look very good! I'm waiting for my lower fairing pieces to come in (black) and I'm painting my front fender "frame grey". When I get it all together I'll post some good pics.

I would really like to see them also, every think about the head light grill? I put one on mine cause I think it gives the bike a meaner look, and what mirrors are you using?

Tq- I'm using Cat Eye mirrors. You can pick them up at a bicycle shop or search online for some. Colorado Cyclist has some I'm sure. I have thought about a headlight grill. I may have to try one just to see what it looks like. I am going to run some handguards this winter though to keep my hands a little bit warmer. Doesn't get too cold down here but enough to get your hands cold.
Thanks for the compliments. I will post some pics hopefully by this weekend if my parts come in. Odie

Tq- no. I dyed it last year. It started out as regular ol' red. It was a fair amount of work but it turned out nice.

I had thought the same thing, except for using silver instead of black. I also thought you could test it out by throwing some tinfoil un the underside to see if anything interesting would result. I've got a buddy with a CityX but haven't had the chance to experiment with it.

Silver would look pretty cool too, you could most likely do any color you wanted and it would give a pretty interesting effect

Looks fantastic Odie! It needs the headlight grill though! It would look very cool with the flat black fenders.

Nobody is going to know what the heck that is, 9sx plastic, modified 9sx wheels (?), 12S frame and lack of handguards...

Looks great!

BTW, what mirrors are those?

Thanks Reep! You're the second one that says it needs the grill. I'll have to try one and see what it looks like. The fender is actually flat black/gray primer right now. I was going to paint it gloss black to match the lower fairing but when I primed it I sort of liked the look so I'm running a few days like that to see what it looks like. I also thought about painting the fender frame grey which is about the shade that's on it now.
The wheels started out as stock, amber 12S wheels but I stripped them down to bare metal and painted the centers black.
Mirrors are Cat Eye racing. Colorado Cylist.com or any local bike shop, etc.

Hey Odie -

What did you do to paint the plastic? I am in the process of painting an airbox cover flat black, and it already has scratches from bringing it home in a car. Any ideas on how to prevent scratching? It has about 3 coats of Krylon flat black indoor/outdoor enamel.

And by the way...your bike does look great.

Pa- I used some Scotchbrite to roughen things up a little and them some 1000 grit to smooth it out some. Wash real well with dish soap or paint prep to get all the wax, etc. off and spray away. No way to prevent scratching that I know of. You could put a coat of clear over it. You can get some low luster or "not so glossy" if you will, clear coat so as to keep the flat black look.

Dana- Thanks! I really like blue and was going to paint the extra set of plastics I have here blue but came upon a deal on these on a trade and I love it! Turns heads everywhere around here. I still have my other set.

rubber seal actually came out with a hot rod black(flat black) with a clear coat that stays the dull flat black even when cleaned and waxed. they sent us a couple things of it to try out but as of yet we haven't sprayed it on anything. what i have seen of it looks good though
