If this has already been posted I apologize but it is very interesting and from the September Cycle World. Buell has turned to the best vendors for m/c parts no matter where they are located:

Japan - switch gear; alternator; brake rotors, calipers, master cylinders; swingarm

China - wheels (Japanese firm based in China)

Italy - frame; headlights, turn signals

Austria - exhaust headers

Taiwan - seat

USA - bodywork; motor; drive belt; tires; exhaust muffler; passenger grab rails; headlight mount

I've been told since that article came out that the wheels are the only component on the bike that come out of China.

Also of interest is that Japanese bike companies are moving to suppliers all over South Asia, including China. But they don't talk about it much.

I think it's kinda cool that they'd seek out the best parts no matter where they may be.
Quality over location.

I don't get it. You mean fried like an egg roll?

I agree with Metalstorm. It is a sign of Mr Buells intelligence that he realises that ego does not build bikes. Just because you think you are the best does not necessarily mean you are. To swallow your pride and admit to your failings is why I think Buell motorcycles are going to be around for a very long time.

>>>Ignition coils are Chinese, which is why mine fried.

The essence of the shallow mindedness that permeates much of American labor.

For the record, the turbines and generators I am installing in this $1B powerplant today (yes, Sunday) are the best in the world.

Thought you'd like to see a picture of them.

Made in China

For the record, the HRSG's were manufactured by folks who have never uttered a word of English. . . the crew that delivered them (the largest cargo load to ever arrive in an Eastern port) spoke only Russian and the skilled labor to transport the pieces (the smallest one weighed just a touch over 5,000,000 lbs) came from Austria and brought their equipment with them.

It's a global economy and Erik Buell is smart enough to see the future. Don't misinterpret this and try to impute any tacit acceptance, on my part, of some of the Chinese labor practices. But, it's a fact that different things come from different places. You can bet your that the Chinese are using American software to design the stuff they are shipping us.
