well this afternoon sucked a big one. my pride and joy is a big hulking mangeled mess. playing around after work alittle, ran first out, hit second fairly hard, and boom, bike is all over the place as i am dangling by the bars. next thing i know im sliding on my back trying to watch my xb bouncing down the road. from what we have figured out it looks like the front pulley striped about 6 to 8 inches of teeth off the belt (old style) really letting her wind up for a split second and then grabing what was left and turning my bike into a rocket as it shot straight up in the air, landed on its back, slid for a bit then started cart wheeling. damage all over. front fairing pretty toasted, top of airbox cover, tail, tail light, back seat, front brake lever, top of resivour, clutch cable, back rim broke all over, front rim slight bend, frame for front fairing in about 5 pieces, header dinged, maybe bent fork, bar end, ignition switch, rear brake lever, more added character on the swing arm and my harley jacket, jeans and cellphone that was in my pocket, gggrrrr! no scratches on frame or motor though. it even drove itself the last couple blocks to the shed. kinda looking totaled at the moment. planing on fixing it though unless insurance wants to be a pain. wont take much but wheels and a few controls to be rideable again till this winter, but alot of scrounging to make right and come up with a full set of good white plastics. oh ya and im fine. chunk out of my thumb but thats it. such is the story of my life.

I am glad you are okay man...that has got to suck big time. You can get another bike but not another you! In the meantime you have proof these bikes have some serious torque...

I AM KNOCKING ON WOOD EVEN AS I TYPE THIS

I empathize with you greatly. I however, in 16 years of riding, have never gone down. I have spilled my dirt bikes, in the dirt. But that is nothing compared to what you just went through.

I know your injuries mean jack to you and all you can think about is your bike, so I hope your bike gets better real soon.

so ya i would say the 9 is toast as far as insurance company goes, they haven't gotten a look at it yet but i checked on most the parts and is about 4200 worth of damage if i buy new. ow. then figure in $75 an hour at a harley shop. i would fix myself but they will figure it at dealer. it would be street able again for WAY less though, and then i could just have some fun with it and not have to worry. whats an o3 xb9r with 9200 miles on it worth anyway these days?

Ouch man, That sucks. That really SUCKS. But you could look at the silver lining, if the insurance company totals it, and decides to give you a downpayment/payout on the value, you can buy a new one, and also talk to the insurance company about buying the wreck for parts ; ) Ugh, man.. glad you came out practically unscathed.. things coulda been ALOT worse. Sticky side down from now on K?

Peace

According to NADA, the retail range is $4,240 to $5,575. Me thinks they'll total it... The upside is, as Frausty mentioned, you should be able to buy the wrecked bike for scrap value at around $400. Mighty good price for a bunch of good spares...

Steve.
