05 XB9SX Was idling fine this morning. This afternoon the idle seems to be too low. When the bike is started cold it idles too low and dies, when the bike is warmed up the idling seems too low as well (below 1000). Can someone point me to where the idling control is? Thanks! | ||

If you are looking at the bike from the front, on the right side of the front wheel next to the air intake on the left is the idle adjuster. | ||

It takes an allen key to adjust (you can't turn the knob even though it appears like you could). The adjustment is very fine. If could take three full turns to gain 50 RPM. Make sure you set the idle while hot. It should be ~1050 when hot. | ||

Cool thanks!! I turned it to the left.. I think that was correct. Idling seems to be a little better.. I'll have to look at the manual when I get home.. Is turning to the left (counter clock wise) raising the idle? I noticed a little backfire action too when reving the bike to 2.5rpm and letting off to idle.. Maybe bad gas or sudden humidity can be at play? It weather was much dryer and cooler this morning. | ||

That could certainly have a small effect. Make sure the bike is at operating temp when you adjust the idle though. | ||

Facing the allen bolt straight on... RightyTighty = Idle faster LeftyLoosy = Idle slower Make sure it is warm...like running for 5-10 minutes after initial warmup. (Message edited by lovematt on August 26, 2005) | ||
