Anybody find a good product to use to get the plastic shining? I have a black firebolt, and you can always see little lines and scratches, didn't know if someone has found anything to give it a mirror type appearance. Thanks

I hear that the stuff you see on the Buell site under accessories and maintenance, called Novus or something like that is supposed to work magic. I may try to get some at the dealer next time around and try it. I have some scrathes from an errant dog attack that need some tending to.

it is called Novus and it works WONDERS. realy great stuff and simple to use. there are 3 different stages. #1 for cleaning #2 for light to not so light scratches and #3 for oh damn i need new plastics... the stuff is cheep too, like $5 a bottle

Meguiars Cleaner Wax will hide most swirlies. 3M Finesse-It machine polish will remove swirlies and spiderlines. You'll find it for about $10 at NAPA or an auto paint place. Medium Rubbing Compound will get rid of up to 1500-grit sanding scratches, buuuut...

I am learning that polishing Surlyn is a bich. I've spent as much on 3M paper and chemicals that I could have just bought a new pillion cover. Moral of the story- if you get a gouge, forget about it being perfect, keep the area you're working on small, or just buy a new piece of plastic.

I just got done doing my blue Firebolt with the 3M cleaner followed by the 3M polish. This stuff works wonders!! The bike looks as good as new with no more swirls or scuffs.
I highly recommend you try this combination.

I have found that Harley Glaze works very well for polishing and restoring the Surlyn finish. I used to use Harley Gloss for the final finish but my boss who has a red Chevy SSR told me about Meguiars synthetic polymer "Tech Wax" which leaves an unbelievable wet-look finish.

I was skeptical at first but when I tried it on the blue tank cover, the difference was amazing -- more than merely glossy, it now has that truly deep, wet-look show finish.

I would recommend this combination on a new or fairly new XB. Even though mine is a daily driver with over 32k miles, sun fade and water spot pits, I've been able to polish out most of the weather beaten areas with Harley Glaze and restore the color and depth to as good as if not better than new looks with the Tech Wax.

Meguiar's waxes and polishes are very high quality, and not too expensive. I've found that using an orbital buffer, starting with Meguiar's pre-cleaner wax, running two coats over the entire body. Then changing to a clean bonnet remove it with the buffer. This will clean up any contaminants, water spots/pits, bug residue, and road grime/oil. This makes a very good "clean" surface to start polishing.

Then with a new bonnet, start with the Polish put a good two coats of the polish, slowly letting the buffer do the work. Don't let the bonnet get dry, as this will put swirls in the finish. Once the applied polish gets a bit hazy.. not DRY buff it off with a clean bonnet. Repeat this over the entire body, and follow it up with Meguiar's Carnuba wax. Two coats, applied just like the polish. If you see any faint swirls due to possible sand/or irregularities in the bonnets, get a clean one, and apply a little bit of cornstarch on the plastics, and buff it clean. Whole process takes about an hour.. but leaves a deep glossy finish that lasts for a whole season. did mine 5 months ago, and water still beads up and rolls off.

For the final finishing, try S100 detail and wax. It outshines the Novus and the Harley glaze. Brings back that like-new luster where the Harley glaze leaves a dull finish.
