OK, Just got home from the bank and I AM ALL SET!!! New Buell owner on Saturday here!!!
I found a 2004 XB12S brand new with race kit at a dealer a few hours away for $12,000 CDN (about 8400 US) they are giving me nothing for my sporty but oh well what can ya do...gott have the Buell...

Any recommendations on basic mods/upgrades that need to be done to the '04...my plans for now are
-new mirrors
-clear orange '06 plastics( i believe with this I should buy the new inner airbox cover?)
-new rubber.
am I missing anything?

Oh yeah anyone in Edmonton Alberta wanna go riding?

Congrats! Welcome to the family.

Your inner airbox cover should be good...make sure it has a "dimple" (like the bottom of a teardrop) pointing down into the air filter area.

Other than asthetics you should be good to go.

EDIT: forgot to say CONGRATS! new bikes rock!

If the '06 plastics you're getting have the new 'vent' up near the gas cap you may or may not need the inner airbox to fit correctly. I haven't seen the internal routing just yet. I'd get it anyway 'cause you'll have the stock '04 scoop inlet + the vent up top. I would assume you could just use your '04 inner but might as well let a little more air in, should be fine its so tiny.

New rubber right away? why not just get used to the bike for a couple thousand miles on the stockers and save the cash for now? if you're coming from a Sporty i think you'll be fine with the stock 207/208. I know, I know, everyone thinks they suck. I never had a problem with them on my Honda or the Buell for regular street riding. Just regular stock tires is all, upgrade when you've worn 'em out is my recommendation.

great info Typeone...thx I appreciate it!
I know you are right, I read on here all the negative about the stock tires, but like you said coming from the sportster I bet they feel like glue...not doing track days, just urban buelligan : D

no problem, just my opinion of course. i'm no racer on the street and the 207/208s held up fine for regular riding. i cant seem to get past 1/4"+ chicken strips on the street so i lean but always felt they were fine once nice 'n warm ; ) and sure, i liked my Metzeler M1s better once on but don't spook yourself out because of internet chat.

Oh, and have F.U.N!! ; )

Congrats on the Buell!

First thing the bike needs is miles. Lots & lots & miles.

Once you get used to her you'll know what works & what doesn't work for you. Then you'll be better able to decide what mods (if any) you want.

Again, Congrats on the bike. Sporty's are nice but XBs are better in my opinion. My Sporty sits lonely & depressed in the garage while I'm out on the Buell. I guess I need to find a good home for her.

I had some Bridgestone Battlax SS's on my last sportbike, they're oriented towards the occasional track-day and I've yet to see where they actually outperform the stock 207's. Torx bits and a shop manual would be good upgrades to have. They come in real handy!!

EDM, I am running the 208's (got a great deal twice in a row). They stick well on the streets but go away quickly. So don't worry about replacing them right away as you will be doing anyway soon enough.

Make sure and get some frame pucks, well worth the $40 investment if you ever go down.

Thanks everyone and yes Frausty..gotta pic a new name now!!!
The tires are staying until they are bald....
Little confused on the inner airbox...(sorry benn riding cruisers for 15 years new to sport bikes)...when I order the '06 plastics, should I order the new inner air cover as well, or is the stock on the '04 ok.
I am also trying to decide between the Buell Streetfighter seat and the Corbin. I have a Mustang solo on my Sporty and its AWEASOME but they dont make for Buells.
Last question...(for now lol)...Also looking at the Buell Lightning Saddlebags..any feedback?

Congrats on the new bike!
If you want to go for a long ride, follow the Yellow Head Hwy west until you hit the Pacific ocean and you'll be in my home town (Prince Rupert). I'll show you all the best twisties.

Edmsportster, Welcome to Buelldom. First, Ride, ride, ride. Get a service manual, sit with your new bike and get to know it.
The tires won't last long. By the time you figure out they're crap, you'll need new ones any way.
Just don't buy the Dunlops when it's time.
Some of the things you won't like too much about the bike (like standing up while braking) will go away with a nice set of Metzlers, Pirelli, or the like.
Again, Welcome!
3 more days!

Enjoy, and please: when you figure out whether you need the '06 inner airbox cover to go along with '06 plastics, be sure to let the rest of us know.

I'm guessing that you won't need it (since your '04 will still have the snorkel) and that you can always save some money & make holes in the old one.

No problem Dave...I will prob have to wait a month or so before ordering the '06 plastics due to budget (aka wife) and if no one has tried them yet I will definitely post the results..

PS to DaveS - possible to get a price on the Valencia Orange flyscreen and fenders?
