Just curious, anyone here got these? Any feedback you can give on them? About to do the 10k mile service and Rick_a made a comment to go ahead and put em in, it's only like 90$ and since we gotta have the springs out to check the fork fluid level may as well go ahead and put the more aggressive ones in.. (He's gonna make me go broke I swear it)

Thanks for any input!!!

Hi,

They only fit the larger diameter forks. I ordered a set when I bought my 04 12s leftover. They didn't fit, selling dealer didn't know that and called the fact, they set the dealer straight and then changed the web site to specify the 05's and up.

The only good thing was the selling dealer didn't charge me for the failed install, but in return for that I have wrench marks all over the caps and crowns.. Oh well, I don't have to worry about buggering them up myself when I work on them.

yeah, the guy who recommended I get em is a fairly knowledgeable, and mine is in fact the `05

hmmm 76$ can't beat it for a suspension "upgrade" also looking at the Hyperpro combination kit, fork springs, rear spring and synthetic fork oil.. but it's about 200$.

Hi,

It's not a real "upgrade" it's just higher rate springs. They are still made by Showa. In my experience, high quality aftermarket ones are most of the time worth the higher cost.

One word of advice, when you select fork oil, I would use Amsoil "Shock Therapy" full synthetic. Send me a note if you can't find it locally, I have some.

Call somebody like Max at Traxxion Dynamics. He can get you the correct spring rate for the Buell forks and shock for your weight with all your gear on.

Not saying that Traxxion is anything very special but they do a lot of work on these (and other brands) suspensions for Buells and know the bikes well.

Then, take the time to PROPERLY set your static sag, IGNORE the recommendations on "lines" - all that stuff - you want to measure sag directly in order to start anywhere close to correct when changing springs.

I dont know about the XB, my 12s seems fine stock, but I agree with the oil. I put Progressive Springs, gold valve emulators and the shock therapy in my V-Max and it did wonders. In the XB I would say try the oil for sure cheap good improvement.

A few months ago the Buell owners group magazine had an article on the pro series springs and said that they work best on the track but probably wouldn't be ideal for the street. The rear spring is not progressively wound like the stock one so it would be very stiff in the initial part of the travel and less compliant. Tracks are usually a lot smoother and those pro springs probably shine there.

Does anyone make Ti springs for a front end? I've found them for the rear, but I would imagine that they would be of more use on the front.

I'd stay with the stock springs on both ends unless you're getting more than 35mm front and 30mm rear sag with you, full fuel/oil and all your gear.

The progressive springs do make for a more comfy ride. If you get single rate springs, you can drop the preload a little for more comfortable riding, run them back to proper adjustment when a touch more "agressive" riding is expected.

Hi,

From what I was told by a few people that have tried them is that unless your over 225 lbs they are very stiff and the bike gets skittery when braking. It also makes the short wheelbase more noticeable as the bike dosen't comply to the road surface as well.

The people that had them said they were either going back to the stock setup or going with aftermarket.

Thanks for the input,
As Slaughter mentioned,

I think I will go ahead and get them, they're only 80$ or so, and it's not very difficult to change them out. Also as he mentioned I could back pre-load and damping down a bit for the road, and on track days adjust it accordingly. I'm 25, and a bumpy ride is no big deal for me =)

I'll have to look around for the "shock Therapy" synthi oil... any particular weight/viscosity? or does it only come in one weight?

Hi,

Shock Therapy comes in 2 weights, light and medium. The light is the one I use as I like to setup a little softer than most people for the street. The medium is the one that replaces HD type B and E.

If you can't find it, give me an email through here, I have plenty of both weights and I'll be glad to sell you a quart or two.
