He can't be referring to Odie's pipe.
Odie's pipe retains the valve & has dual outlets (for the 12). It doesn't sound like a Drummer either.
Not a knock off in my book.

He also says it's been brought to his attention. Odie's pipe has been around for a while now.
I concur with M1. Let's wait for a response before pulling out the torches.

If there is no patent on the Drummer then it dosen't matter you can copy it all you like, just remember you get what you pay for.

Its not hard to rework the stock can, my brother and I have done 7 of them. All you have to do is cut a small hole in the top of the can, cut the inner pipping and it becomes a straight pipe. Once you are done with the inner cuts reweld and you are done, it has a great sound and still performs well (it has no dead spots like some of the aftermarket pipes). Just ask my buddy that runs the force on his custom 88" XB how well this set-up performs. The only problem is it retains the same weight as the stock pipe. By the way it sounds really similar to a D&D if you enlarge the exit hole or make dual outlets and it gets really loud, just ask my buddy that has the D&D. It also retains the stock jack point. So if you don't race just do this to your pipe. If you look at my profile you can see the finished product.

So I guess what I am getting at is anyone can rework the stock can as much as they want, it is their right.

I just hope someone wasn't trying to ripe Kevin off by doing the work themselves and then sending it in to him.

I'm not trying to sell anything just letting people know that if they want a modified stock can they can do it themselves pretty easily, and do not listen to the people that say you will lose performance because you will not.

When I was in the market for an after market muffler, I called KDFab and they didn't have any in stock - plus I was told I'd have to wait a few weeks. That sent me looking for another seller - so it seems to me that there is plenty of room for competition in this space, if KDFab can't handle all of the business.

It sounds to me as though someone is having a temper tantrum about good competition. Yes it is true that you get what you pay for, but when I was in the market for a new pipe, I could not understand why someone would charge $400 to rework a stock pipe. That seemed very unreasonable to me. But that is just my spoon in the pot

Sounds to me like Norris is bringing this to peoples attention. He never accused anyone. He just stated some facts.

Other people have taken his statement out of context.

Warnings happen all the time. I can remember the media warning people about fake Gucci purses and clothing being sold from street vendors. This isn't any different. Would it be better if no one said anything and people continue to get ripped off? This forum is about sharing info good or bad.

I second Gearhead.
And no it is not hard to rework your own can, but those who sell them have done a ton of testing to get the proper performance w/sound. I personally love one over the other based on sound alone, and they say it performs as well, that is my opinion though, so like everyone else says, let's hear something from Kevin or Norris.

BTW- anybody got a muffler they want to get out of the way?

Hi,

oh yes copying your hard work sucks...

But the idea of manipulations on stock exhaustsystem to get better performance or better sound is old like the motorcycle itself.

http://www.hillbilly-motors.com/html/hbm_roadmaster.html

We do it too, and surly not hurting the interests of the drummer makers.

I have to say that if it wasn't for Norris I may consider a Drummer, but his posts leave me with a bad taste in my mouth.

I feel the same way about people who try to preach religion to me. Give me the facts, and I'll decide for myself. Get aggressive, and I will walk away

is this high school?

I didnt hear odies name referenced in norris's post but everyone wants to get worked up over this.

I also didnt see kevin post up here so we also dont know how valid this complaint or what have you may be.

but i also havent seen norris repost to rebut some of these issues.

and as i see it, kevin may have not been the first to modify the muffler but he is the first ive known to sell a modified can.

why pick sides, this is competition and it may result in a better can then the drummer or drummer may reign supreme.

they are all just trying to build a better mousetrap and i commend that.

Am still waiting for someone to make a Stealth Performance Pipe for the Tubers and XB's.

I miss being able to strafe the twisties without alerting the LEO's to my presence and tickin' off the residents.

Wake me up when someone does.

I dont think Kevin would give a damn if someone reworks an exhaust. I do think he'd be miffed if the can was sent to him because it has shoddy performance&workmanship (i know i would)

Thansesxb9rs - as you stated above, could you give better detail on reworking the stock exhaust. i have a xb12s and was thinking on buying a used xb9 muffler and then trying out your modifications to that pipe in case i screw-up. do you think this train of thought would work? thanks

Mike,
You are not helping Kevin at all. Wise up. Look to the light. Kevin sure does.

The good news is that BadWeB now has a local donor bike for the XB12 muffler shoot-out! So we'll soon have dyno charts to argue about. : )

May I humbly request a favor? I'll even chip in (and no, I didn't think you were fund raising ; )) a few bucks for the dyno/swap time...

Would you mind convincing Dave to send you that Ti-Force too? Maybe check into getting a Micron while you're pokin' around ; )? It would be nice to have numbers from a bunch of pipes on the same bike and dyno.

Oh and...

Geez another person who hates pipe threads...
